MAY PAY BONDS TO TREASURER TO SAVE FEES

Wayne county bonds will hereafter probably be made payable at the county treasurer's office. It has been customary In the past for bonds to be made payable at some county bank. Up until the last year, banks have been given a one-eighth of one percent for collection. Since the custom was discontinued, however, the banks have received no collection fee. They benefit by having the use of the money until the bonds are cashed In. Often bonds are not presented for payment until several months after they are due. Banks get the use of the

money during this time without In terest. Bonds Are Often Lost.

Countv Auditor Bowman said re

cently that bonds are often lost. At present a county bond which has been long overdue has never been presented because the owner cannot locate It. The bond roust be nroduced if its

fwne.r recplvea n&vment.

Unless the bond is found, the bank

at which the bond was made payawe will get the use of the money forever without paying interest. It must under law always be left on deposit so that It wilt be ready if the document is pre-

aented. The state board of accounts has advised rnnntv officials that if bonds

were made payable at the treasurer's office, the county would receive all the

. benefits that banks now enjoy, it win mean much more work for the auditor and treasurer, however. Council Advocates Change. The recent bond issue to cover the rectlon expenses of the Main and South O street bridges was made payable at some bank In Richmond which shall be named by the buyer. If it wculd not have necessitated an extra session of the council, the ordinance probably would' have been changed as was recommended by the state board of accounts so that the bonds would lave been made payable at the treasurer's office. As it was, on the third day of the session, three councllmen stood out for the change. The other four opposed a change because it would have kept the appropriations in Jeopardy an extra iay and if something had turned up ,to prevent five councllmen from being (present, all their work of the other three days would have come to naught. ; ENTERTAINS CARD CLUB i - ' LIBERTY, Ind., Dec. 15. KIN HUBBARD WRITES HOOSIER SAYINGS IN SEASON'S NEW ABE MARTIN BOOK

In these days of the high cost of living, when the average mortal is making a strenuous effort to do without something or other that' he always has enjoyed in years gone by. It Is a real Joy to find , that "Abe Martin" has come back once more, with his humor just as rich, the quantity just as great and the book Itself in its same attractive gingham cover, at the same old price. That's saying something, too, in these days of expensive paper, and Kin Hubbard's achievement from an economical viewpoint as well as from the artistic side of things, is not to be overlooked.

This "year's Abe Martin brings us once more into the company of the entire family of characters, so wellknown and now so universally beloved by the followers of Abe's quaint humor. It is probable, however, that Hubbard's masterpiece in humor is to be found In the satire "Thelma's Vow" which is made the central feature of this year's book. A review of the story would be unkind to the future reader, and it would be impossible also without reprinting it almost In its entirety. There is something uncanny In the writing of Miss Fawn Lippincott, one of Hubbard's characters who In this instance is the authoress of "Thelma's Vow." There have been few pieces

of humor so cleverly executed and Hubbard's fame will go a step higher as a result. '-;' ",' ' The remainder of thia year's Abe Martta Is devoted to the sayings of the Hoosler folk as exemplified by Tilford Moots and all the rest. As usual the book is designed primarily as a Christmas gift to those whose keen sense of humor appreciates the genius of Hubbard. It is keeping up its old claim for popularity in Richmond, according to the book stores where it is offered.

Satisfying the demand which the goodness of the car creates is still our one great problem. Dodge Brothers works are attaining the proportions of a city in themselves, but the demand grows in excess of the expansion. Owners have found that its economy and its efficiency are unchanged through the changing seasons. It runs as well in Fall as in Spring in Winter as in Summer and at no greater cost. ' , .. Its merits are now so universally admitted that they are rarely a subject of discussion. That the car is all it is represented to be is taken for granted. That it is good value is conceded.

It will pay you to visit us and examine this car
