BEARISH
GRIPS WHEAT TRADE ON CHICAGO MARKET CHICAGO, Dec. 14. Bearish feelinj took a new grip today on the wheat market. Traders appeared to be largely Influenced by reports that the American Ambassador at London had been Instructed to ascertain the attitude of the British government toward an appeal by the President to enter Into peace negotiations with Germany. Much attention was also given to reports ' that the German submarines were sinking more than ten British or neutral ships a day, and that the food problem In Great Britain had grown correspondingly serious. Opening 1'rtces, which ranged from 2c lower to 4c advance, with May at fl.07 to $1.63 and July at $1.43 to $1.44, were followed by moderated . declines all around, and then something of a rally. Corn sagged with wheat, but showed , rraater power to rally. The scantiness ; of country offerings was a bullish factor. After opening unchanged to ! lower, the market roes to well above j yesterday's latest figures. ! Ots paralleled the action of corn.
1 Little or no independence was evident. Steadiness ruled in provisions. Demand was of a scattered sort, and ! there was not much pressure to sell.
