CAMBRIDGE SCHOOL ' PRONOUNCED SAFE BY THREE REVIEWERS

Fear of Cambridge City citizens that the school building was unsafe was allayed today by a report made by a corps of architects who inspected the structure. The Investigators recommended that the building be used until the close of the BChool term. The report submitted by the following, Charles W. Taylor, Charles Working and Arthur Duffy, superintendent of building and construction at Purdue, is: To the Trustees and the School Town of Cambridge City, Ind.: Report Is Submitted. We, the undersigned do hereby submit the following report on the condition of the public schools building of said town now used for school purposes. ji In making an inspection of said 'building, we find conditions existing which are undoubtedly due to the set tlement of said building at some past period. Not knowing how long sucn conditions have existed, it is our Judg ment from appearances that the same have existed for a period or time. j We being called here for the purtm)ha of lnsnectine said school building to determine whether same would be safe to continue the present term of school until the close of the school year of 1916-17, do hereby report favorably under present conditions, barring floods and backwater and abnormal conditions which may arise. J In case of flood or backwater or abnormal conditions, we advise that the use of the building for school purpose be discontinued until another inspection be made to determine whether the building has deteriorated in any respect from the present condition, f In conclusion, therefore, we advise the school board to use tha school .building for the present school term. . Warning not to delay the mailing of Christmas parcels too long, was given today by Postmaster Beck, with particular emphasis In view of the fact that Christmas falls on Monday, the day after another holiday. " , "This Is particularly true of mail which passes through big transfer points such as Indianapolis, Chicago or other mail and railroad terminals where parcels are resorted for other trains," said Mr. Beck. Next week an exta window will be opened in the post office lobby for parcels and Jong tables will be placed in the center of the lobby for wrapping and tying. Small tables have already appeared for addressing cards. - . . FIFTY PERSONS DIE IN MUNITION PLANT TURIN, Dec. 11. COUNCILMEN Continued From Page One. vinced that there .would be no great saving in letting one contractor build both bridges. Harrington reported that the arches of the South G street bridge should be shortened to lessen expenses of construction. This would prevent the " same forms from being used for both bridges. Could Save Much Money. "An enormous amount of. money could be saved by waiting a couple of years until our unnatural prosperity passes over. Moreover, I cannot sec that an emergency exists for the immediate erection Tjf a south side bridge. I am sorry for the sake of "the South Side Improvement association that i cannot vote 'yes.' " Five of the seven votes of the the county council are all that are necessary to pass an appropriation in an emergency session. The passing of the appropriation for the Main street bridge ends one of the most spirited citizen's controversies in the history of Wayne county. The present bridge was condemned in July, 1915. First there was much agitation to open it for traffic. Then came a, body of men who wanted a level bridge built. Several thousands of dollars have been spent in investigations to determine the best type of bridge. Appropriations for the Main and South G street bridges were rejected at the annual session of the council in September. sure
