RETIRING OFFICIALS
' LOOK INTO FUTURE
When the terms of County Treasurer
Chamness, County Recorder Parsons and County Commissioner Doddridge expire, January . 1, the Progressive
party' will no longer be represented In the elective offices of Wayne county. All three of these men have returned to the Republican party. Benjamin , Parsons was elected on theh Progressive ticket In 1912 and Chamness and Doddridge were elected on the "Bull Moose" ticket In 1914. Mordecal Doddridge has tended to his duties as commissioner on the side and he will continue farming. j "I will remain in Richmond at least until school Is dismissed next spring. I am not ready to make public my plans at this time," said Albert Cham ness today. "My plans for after January 1 are still hanging fire. 1 will probably take a month's rest and then enter some kind of business," said Parsons. Albert Steen, sheriff, who was elected on the Republican ticket In the 1914 election will give up his office January 1." His plans are not definite but he Is considering moving to California." '' '

ROME, Dec. 7. Pope Benedict held a public consistory today in the Hall of Beatification above the Atrium of St. Peter's in the presence of several thousand persons. The ten cardinals
created on Monday and also Cardinal Freuhwirth, apostolic delegate at Munich, and Cardinal Scaplnelli, former papal nuncle at Vienna, who were created cardinals in 1914, entered the hall, after which the pontifical procession went in bearing the portable throne.' The pope blessed the kneeling assemblage.

largest crows' roost in the United
states is located in this county. The ixact location is not specified. It is sstimated that between ten and fifty Ihousand crows spend part of each rear in a five acre tract of woodland.

BERKELEY, Cal., Dec. 7. Captain Carlos Gilman Calkins, navigating officer on Admiral ; Dewey's flagship, the Olympia at Manila Bay, is at the point of death today at his home here. He has been ill for several months. Captain Calkins was retired from active service about ten years ago.
