WHEAT PRICE FALLS 9 CENTS ON BIG SALES
CHICAGO, Nov. 26. Wheat- prices came down today with a crash,' breaking in some cases as much as 9 cents a bushel. Big sales by some of the leading houses started a general movement to unload holdings, and gave an opening for aggressive selling by bears. Talk of the likelihood of an armistice in Europe had considerable to da with weakening the market, and so also had warnings of the presence of a fighting submarine In the Atlantic. Continual reference to a possible embargo by the United States was likewise a factor. July wheat in which the greatest decline took place fell to $1.45 as compared with I1.54H to 1.54 t the finish on Saturday. V At first the market , gave Uttle indication that the reports would have any serious effect, but after a couple of leading houses began to sell on a heavy scale, the movement to the bear elde suddenly widened and excited unloading followed. The recent moves for an embargo on shipments of foodstuffs from the United States appeared to leave the market largely without support, and in no condition to withstand such a flood of stop-loss orders to sell as overwhelmed the -market when once the market began to break In earnest. Opening prices, which ranged from the same as Saturday's finish to c lower, with Dec. at $1.76 to $1.76 and May $1.83 to 1.83, were succeeded by a material rally, but then a fall, which carried July down 9 to $1.46 and made Dec. and May drop respectively h to 4 cents a bushel. The close of wheat was weak 34 to 4 cents net lower, with Dec. at $1.73 to $1.73 and May $1.80 to $1.80ii and July $1.49'8 to $1.50. , Corn early gave way with wheat. The market closed heavy at 1 to 2 cents net decline. Oats were with corn.
