tionary farm engines, we bought out the company." 100 Men Employed Next year, the company will have undergone a complete change. About 100 men will be in the employ of the company; its name will be changed, and it will move from its congested quarters, Mr. Kirkman said. "Ford's engineers tested several compressors by running them double speed day and night and giving them other rigorous tests," said Mr. Kirkman. "Ours was selected. : The compressors will be put in every assembling plant and Bervice plant to be established which means about 1,200 orders in the next two years. The output of the compressors has been 500 a year, about three-fourths of the plant's volume, gas engines, about 20 per cent and pattern manufacturing about 5 per cent, Mr. Kirkman said. Needs More Space The decision to accept the best inducement in making its next move
was led up to by the failure of the company to get part of the M. Rumely group of ; buildings when it was split up by the Commercial club, taking the last available factory location. "We would hate to leave Richmond," said Mr. Kirkman, "but we may find it necessary. Mr. Wood and I are both Commercial club members. 1 started this business myself, as a pattern maker fifteen years ago and then started to take orders for engines in the old blackboard factory at Eleventh and North E streets. Eight years ago, I moved here after buying the compressor business from the Teetors in Hagerstown." To take care of the scale business and additional compressor business, the warehouse will be converted into a manufacturing plant. The scares are of 5 and 10 ton capacities and their advantge is in the absence of pits in the ground although they are for heavy weighing.
