BEAUTIFUL ARCH TO BE ERECTED AT ENTRANCE OF EARLHAM CEMETERY
With the acceptance of an offer to build a beautiful 5,000 arch and shelter house at the entrance to Earlham cemetery, John L. Rupe, president of the cemetery trustees, announced today a plan for opening a new section of the country club grounds as one of the most artistically arranged spots In Richmond. The general plan calls for a chain ot small lakes in the bottom lands with artistic road and foot bridges, winding drives 'and other landscape beauties. Work will start soon after the section is opened, which will be as soon as lots In the last section opened in the rear of the Reid mausoleum have been disposed of. There will be another artistic gateway and shelter house at the entrance formerly used by the country club near the site of the old club house. , It will be of more modest design and will cost about $1,000. The stone for the arch Is In Richmond, Mr. Rupe said. The big arch and shelter house will be the gift of Frank and Will Coffin of New York City and Mrs.. Morris White, of Cincinnati, widow of a banker who left a bequest to Earlham college and endowed the school several times during his life. The arch will be

L. Loop and family Saturday evening. The Morrisons returned to their Indianapolis home Sunday evening.
a memorial to Mrs. White's brother, Charles Coffin and to his father, Elijah Coffin, who was the first person buried in Earlham cemetery when it was opened In 1870. Frank and Will Coffin were grandsons of Charles Coffin. After opening the country club grounds, which have already been platted, the trustees will begin plans for a chapel and a modern receiving vault. The present receiving vault will be razed. These will be the last of the contemplated Improvements to be carried out, Mr. Rupe said, as the cemetery association's income is entirely from the sale of burial lots.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., Nov. 23. The election of officers for the Indiana grand lodge, I. O. O. F., resulted in the selection of Harry A. Winterrodd, of Indianapolis, for grand warden today. The office was the only one for which there was a contest. Other old officers were advanced. The final session of the grand lodge was held today.
SEEK COAL RELIEF IN PILES OF ASHES
WASHINGTON, Nov. 23. Scarcity of coal due to the war has driven duties to the ash heaps for fuel. . Consular reports today describe a method of grinding the refuse from furnaces and passing it through a liquid which separates that having fuel value from cinders and ashes. It is said that two thousand tons of refuse produces 23 tons of fuel.

Andrew J. Skinner, trustee of the Adam Hill estate, filed a partial settlement report in circuit court today showing that the balance due the heirs is $28,155.58. At the request of Mr. Skinner, the United States Fidelity and Guaranty company was released from his bond and he gave personal bond for $26,000.

SMITH IS ARRESTED
Stanley Smith, until recently a well known Richmond young man, having been employed here as a storekeeper for a local hotel, was arrested in this city today on the charge of having passed a forged check for $45 on a bank at Eldorado, O., where he had been residing for a short time. The check was made payable to "Charles Baker," the name Smith passed under in' Eldorado. After securing the
money Smith came to Richmond and had just purchased a ticket to Indianapolis when placed under arrest by Officer Lawler. He will be returned to Eldorado this afternoon.
FISHER SPENDS $64, Harry Fisher, county recorder-elect, spent $64 during the campaign. He filed his expense account with County Clerk Kelly today. v One Paris motion picture plant produces an average of 3,000,000 feet of films weekly.
