her quite meek, so she took the cup, and when the old woman told her to drink, she held the cup to her lips. x This time the cup. did not jump, and the girl drank all that the cup contained. No sooner had she swallowed It than out from her mouth flew little black spots, fast arid thick. 5 They looked like little beetles, for the spots had wings, and the girl put her hand over her mouth to stop them, but no sooner did she do this than her tongue began to smart and born, and she opened her mouth again. Out came the little black spots, thick and fast, but they flew up the chimney, Where the old woman chased them with her stick. At last they stopped, and the old woman said: "Go home now, and look in the cup. I have taken away all your bad thoughts. You can see whatever you wish in the cup if you do not iet the thoughts return." Away ran the girl, feeling happier than she ever had before in her life, and when she reached home "she kissed her mother and told her , she would be a better daughter to her and never again say unkind things. WIFE OF MINISTER ENTERTAINS WOMEN NEW PARIS, O., Nov. 13 The Presbyterian Thimble club and invited guests were entertained in a most pleasant way Friday afternoon in. the parlors of the Presbyterian church by Mrs. E. J. Vance and Mrs. O. W. Sherer, hostesses. A large number of ladies were present and employed themselves with their needlework until a late afternoon hour when dainty refreshments were served. Though the soil of Ladakh, included in the state of Kashmir,is sterile and the climate severe, the country is a great source of supply of the wool used in the manufacture of Kashmir shawls.
