' A new display of the wot of Richmond artists has' been drawing much favorable comment this week." Because of the lack of space in the Starr Piano company's salesroom windows at Tenth and Main streets, the display hns been confined to some dozen of the best works of Richmond artists who devote their entire time to art, and to many water colors by Alden Mote. The display is exhibited by Orville Price In the Starr windows by courtesy of.E. S. Curtis, Starr managor. Two of the outstanding oils are those of Frank Girardin. Both are rich in color and tone, especially for his interpretation of reflections in a umall pool in which a meandering little creek hesitates for a moment. His other, Tippecanoe, has shared the attention of viewers. Pictures of One Type. All of the, pictures are of the type for which Richmond artists have gained their name as a school of paintprs of outdoor life. Kven Mote's water colors run to the type of the school, although he has attained to distinction as a natural portrait painter. He has no portraits on exhibition although there is a possibility his portrait of Isaac Jenkinson may be added. Charles Clawson, who has recently gained some big commissions in Chicago, has two of his meritorious works

in the display, Woodland Brook and Moonrise. Probably the most valuable and doubtless one of the biggest fine works of art in point of size available for exhibitions here is J. E. Bundy's Evening at the River, a 6tudy in shadows and fading light effects in which the sombre color of evening is skillfully wrought. Bundy's other pictures there are Early Snowfall, Winter on the Whitewater and The Storm. W. A. Eyden, Sr., again shares a place to his son, William Eyden. Each has a picture in the exhibit, the father's being The Fishing Village, Iceland, Michigan, and the son's An Autumn Scene. Mote's water colors occupy most of the west window. His The Sheep and another painted along the Lake Michigan shore after a storm and high wind have whipped the water into rollers, are receiving general praise. ' 1 .'

TOO MUCH ELECTION GETS WIVES BEATING

Too much election celebration brought two wife beaters into city conrt today. ' , ' "He drove me out of the house Wednesday night and when I came home the next day I heard him coming down the streets shouting for Wilson," the wife of Henry Sittloh told MayoV Robbins. Henry pleaded guilty. She then told how he had attacked and beaten .her, driven her from her home a second time, pursued her and given her another beating, and how she was res-, cued by a colored man. The mayor took the case under advisement. H. G. Ewalt, another alleged wife beater, sobbed his plea of not guilty and said he did not want to be tried. "All I want, is to go back ohme to Minnie. Oh, Mr. Mayor, I never hit my Minnie." Mrs. Ewalt said her husband had been drunk for several days, had rer fused to go'towork and had been abusive to her. This :case was also taken under advisement.
