EARLHAM LEARNS GOLF VOCABULARIES ON COLLEGE LINKS Substantial additions to vocabularies of Earlham college students are being recorded this week, now that golf with emphasis cn the "ah" and pronounced "galf" has becom'e the latest and most popular course of study at the institution. Earlham's ninehole golf course, a regulation affair that supplants the pastures and skating pond south of the college, is being informally dedicated. The Earlham course is on nine or ten acres naturally adapted to the game. The hazards which include everything from miniature lakes, rivers, mountain ranges, railroad fills and other minor hills and valleys are features of the new course. CALVERT INJURED ON EVE OF CLASH Forty-eight hours before the big Georgetown "U" game on Reid Field Saturday, Earlham football camp has been enveloped in a fog of pessimism now that captain and quarterback Dak Calvert, leading offensive and defensive and defensive mentor of the Quaker eleven, has been laid on the hospital staff with a bum ankle the result of an unlucky wrench during scrimmage practice last night. Calvert probably will be out of the game Saturday. With Calvert gone the Quakers are In a bad way for the heaviest game of the '16 schedule. Arnett, Reese or Jenkins, Calvert's understudies, are not In position to step into the kicks of the Quaker captain. BOOKKEEPS MUFF THREE TO GEEZERS Rolling against scores chalked up by the Geezers last week and scores yet to be rolled when the Seeders get back In the game next week, the Bookkeeps of the Y. M. C. A. league managed to lose three games to the Geezers at the same time they were setting up a couple of husky totals for the Seeders to overcome. In both sets Blomeyer kicked in with high score while Klute and Bloraeyer divided the consistency stuff. The scores: Bookkeep-Geezer 1st. 2d. 3d. Total Av. A. Friday night at which time the definite date will be set. SAN FELICE CIGARS FIVE CENTS STRAIGHT AND WORTH IT1 Owing to the greatly increased cost of quality tobaccos, in fact everything pertaining to high grade cigars, the makers of the San Felice cigar, The Delsel-Wemmer Company, have advanced the selling price to the Jobbers and Dealers, and henceforth this cigar will positively be sold to the consumer at 5 cents straight instead of six for a quarter as previously. The SAN FELICE is national in its scope and character, having justly attained this eminence through its unexcelled excellence. To maintain this unequaled standard of quality, the advance in question is absolutely unavoidable. The generous support of all men using quality cigars is earnestly desired. Adv.

This yeap the world's series produced no Home Run Baker, no Hank Gowdy nor Duffy Lewis, who stood out as the bright stars of other world's championship contests. The only two players who rose above their fellows in the series were Ernest Shore, the Red Sox pitcher and Larry Gardner, third baseman on the same team. Gardner made two home runs during the series, one of which won a game. Shore is credited with pitching two pf the four victories scored by the Red Sox.

CHANGE TO PURDUE OPPOSED BY HIGH Sentiment among local high school authorities is strong against holding the annual basketball tournament at Purdue university instead of at Indiana at Bloomington as has been the custom for several years. Purdue is making an effort to obtain this year's s What Tan "It's wonderful what Tanlac will do for a man or a woman who Is in the condition I formerly suffered.' I really feel like a new man since trying this medicine." This is the tribute that was paid the premier preparation on October 17 by R.Brown, well known .Richmond salesman, who lives in Main street, this city. ( ; . .. "For several years I suffered from stomach trouble and although I tried many different medicines none of them helped me," Mr. Brown continued. "I suffered from a dull headache almost constantly. I had a bad taste In my mouth nearly all the time. My food was not digested properly. I didn't rest well 'at night and, in fact, my condition was run down in every way. There was very little pleasure in life for me. . "At the suggestion of friends I decided to give Tanlac a trial. LYBOULT SHIFTS MEN TO CLOSE GAPS IN SQUAD
Now that a monkey wrench in the shape of ineligibility victims has been thrown into the mechanism of the R. H. S. basketball machine, Drivercoach Lyboult and Mechanician Bus Parker face the problem of building anew the road-roller that was predestined to bury in the dust all opposition along the road between Richmond and Bloomington. With Norris, Webb and McBride, first string guards out of it for good, Coach. Lyboult faces the task of picking an entire new set of defensives. The first step in building up a defense likely will be the shifting of Forward Tal Jessup back to floor guard. Herbie Bulach, a speedy end man, probably will get to fill Jessup's kicks under the goal. Another possible solution is the shifting of Bus Parker to forward and the injection in the pivot point of Shell Simmons, Parker's understudy, at center. . MATT MAY ENTER GAME WITH TUFTS A badly wrenched neck and a couple of near-fractured ribs now in the pro cessor mending are the only things that that can keep Phares Hiatt, for mer R. H. S. gridiron light, and now sensational halfback of the Indiana University team, out of the Tufts fray at Washington park, Indianapolis this coming Saturday. Despite the handicap Hiatt is figuring strongly on his chance to test the supey-husky line of the Bostonians. Coach Stiehm, of I. U., will start Hiatt at half if the latter thinks he can negotiate ft with the physical handicaps. The ballot of more than 100 representative Indiana women also showed FELL FROM LOFT; HURT; THEN WELL How a Man Who Landed On Wood Pile And Was Sore From Head to Foot Found Quick Relief. Once upon a time Edwin Putnam, who lives in the quiet, pretty hamlet of Wendel Depot, Mass., climbed up into a loft to get some building material, just as many another man living in the country must often do. Suddenly he slipped and fell. Ten feet below was a pile of wood, knotted and gnarled. It was a nasty tumble, and Mr. Putnam was injured painfully in the back, he was covered with bruises, and was sore from head to foot. The next day he bought a bottle of Sloan's Liniment which had been recommended to him. Within a very few hours the soreness had vanished and the lameness had disappeared. He was an active man once more. Sloan's Liniment can be obtained at all drug stores, 25c, 50c. and $1.00. they are steadfast In their moral political affiliations. There were 99 who had picked candidates in 1912. Thirty wanted Wilson then and 50 wanted Taft Which way the 19 Roosevelt backers went is not shown in the totals for 1916 because of the failure of many to indicate their sympathies of four years ago, but a cursory examination of the ballots does not show a Roosevelt backer who went anyway but straight Republican. Append Notes to Ballot. One woman voted for Hughes, New, Goodrich and Comstock, marked Roosevelt's name and wrote after it: "The beat man in the ' country." Another could not decide on her-presidential choice. She marked both and then voted straight Republican. She was for Taft in 1912. , An unvoted ballot contained the notation: "I shall be able to vote this ballot one year from today when I see which candidate fulfill their party's platform pledge and make equal suffrage lawful. "MRS. HORACE STILWELL." Many Ballots Mutilated. It was evident that most of the women were first voters. Most of them said they were and proved it by mutilating their ballots. Instead of marking strictly within the square opposite their selections, some of the voters marked lines through every candidate they did not want, some struck off candidates they did want, some checked their choice before and after the name and many avoided the little square entirely. However, about 75 per cent of the ballots were substantially correct in form. Miss Dora Shaffer, representing the

Pencils were distributed and the ballots were marked as the women received them. The discussion of candidates was not as great as the discussion of women's suffrage. Comstock ran ahead in the state with 90 votes, two less than Hughes, received, while bis opponent. Gray, received only 19. There were six Winchester women together at one table and they took advantage of the opportunity to boost their native son, Jim Goodrich for governor. He ran next with 89 votes against Adair's 26.; The senatorial vote ran about 30 behind the ticket, many women voting for only one senator. There was more scratching on the senators than any other candidates. New was the fav-' orite while Watson got the party vote' and Kern and Taggart ran about 15 behind Wilson. !
