II. B. WARNER, 3MAN OF MYSTERY What is announced aa one of the most unusual photcdramas seen In months will be offered at the Murray theatre, Sunday, when Trlangle-Ince presents H. B. Warner and Enid MarIt ey in "Shell 43!" by C. Gardner Sullivan. It constitutes the initial appearance together of these two popular stars and is said to be a most fitting vehicle for them. "Shell 43!" is a unique narrative of cunnlnp in the European war. It concrrns the adventures of a young man

of mystery who possesses pepers which prove him to be the correspond

ent of a big American newspaper, others establishing him as a German

secret service agent, and still others

vouching for his commission as a lieu tejiant in the English army.

In the end a great awakening came lo Helen Brant In the end. a great punishment came to the Snake in Eden.

AN ACTOR BOXER COMES TO MURRAY

Stage history is pretty well filled with boers who become obsessed with th desire to appear before the footlights Instead of under the calcium, but there are few instances of regular nefers becoming boxers of note. Al Friend of the team Friend and Downing appearing at the Murray theatre in an exception to the rule. Friend does not claim to be a professional but sticks strictly with the amateurs. He l.nlds a medal for winning the Amateur Championship of the English Music Halls and looks enough like Abe Attel to be his brother. He boxes for

thejovo of the sport and to keep in;

rendition ana as otten as ne nas oeen approached to join the professionals he has no desire of doing so. Al and his partner are both members of the Y. M. ('. A. and can be seen working out in every city where they appear.

FORREST STANLEY MAKES NEW ROLL

Forrest Stanley is presented in a new role in the Morosco-Paramount

photoplay "The Making of Maddalena

coming to the Murrette theatre Tues

day. His cultured poise as "George Hale,

the favored son of wealth parents is

most improesive. When George Hale becomes an art student in a luxurious studio in Rome because a girl dared him to do it, Forrest Stanley's portrayal is a genuine treat. Then as' George Hale grown sober with experience and suffering, the Forrest Stanley of known dramatic ability, which has placed him in many successes, brings the stirring picture to a triumphant ending.

Ililill:

There Is one interesting question which has escaped all the statisticians. They have been wandering up and down the earth since it was young computing the number of strokes the average man takes with a razor in an avprpkc lifetime how many words the avorage woman speaks in a week; the lrr;:t!i of miles of the world's annual poetical output etc., etc., but no one lias ever usod pencil and paper In computing how many little flaxenliaiivd jiir'.s ascend to the spotlight annually on "Little Eva's" cloud. It wruM, bi? safe to wager that at least ninety per cent, of the motion picture stars began their ascent to lame in that lugubrious way and that at least seventy per cent, of these haviiK outgrown little Eva's wings and cloud, made their next move as "Edit I'a's Burglar." Write to your favorite movie actress n"l nk her If this was not the route shp travelled. Perhaps she skipped "Ediiha's Burglar" but she is most unusual If bhe did not begin her heartracking career as "Little Eva." ' "1 was both 'Eva' and 'Editha,'" laughed Miss Grace Darmond, the pretty little star who is being featured in "The Shielding Shadow." Pathe's wonder-serial at the Arcade Sunday, "nnd I remember I was so little when 1 played 'Little Eva' that I cried when I did the trnnslation scene for the first time because instead of getting off the

rlcud into heaven, as I had expected, I wns lifted off into the dusty, old loft of a theatre."

MME.PETROVA TO COME AGAIN

Mme. Petrova, whose marvelous achievements in the silent drama surpass her greatest effort on the speaking stage, will be seen here on the screen at the Murrette tonight in "The Eternal Question," a Metro wonderplay in five parts produced by the Popular Plays and Players. By experts It is said to be the beet production in which the noted emotional star has ever appeared. Among some of the noteworthy scenes In "The Eternal Question" is where an aeroplane overtakes an outbound steamship and the aviator drops to the deck of the ship and rescues Mme. Petrova, who plays the part of a princess who is being abducted.

THURSTONS SERVE SIX O'CLOCK DINNER

THE "MYSTIC BIRD" FULFILLS PROMISE At .least two .numbers stand out above all others in this week's offering at Murray theatre. They are "The Mystic Bird" and "Friend & Downing." There are other good, ones, of course in fact above the average to be found in vaudeville, notably "The Two Old Cronies," The Jordan Girls and Willard Simms. but for real headliners the first group has the call. "The Mystic Bird" is a number in which a beautiful little canary picks up a' number of selections played by a boy, Master Paul, on his violin, and gives them note for note with a sweetness and accuracy that is little short of marvelous. The canary also repeats the songs and calls of various birds as the boy runs them over on ihe violin. As an evidence of good faith the bird in its cage is carried about the theatre so that the audience may be fully satisfied it Is a real bird and does its stunts without assistance. In fact while the bird was being carried about the house he delighted all with his singing.

NORMA TALMADGE STARS IN PICTURE

In "The Devil's Needle," Triangle drama to be seen at the Murrette theatre Wednesday, Norma Talmadge and Tully Marshall are co-starred, and the latter Is seen in the kind of part in which he achieved his greatest fame on the speaking stage that of a morphine fiend. It was in Clyde Fitch's last play, "The City," produced on Broadway several months after his death, that Marshall appeared as a victim of the "devil's needle," and gave such a marvelous impersonation that on the opening night several women fainted and had to be carried from the audk ence. His individual work was more largely responsible for the success of "The City" than any other one feature of the play.
