THE RICHMOND PALLADIUM AND WN-TELEGP-AM. SATURDAY, OCT. 14, 1916 FRIDAY, THIRTEENTH, LUCKY FOB BROWN friend. "I'm going to keep my feet on something more solid than an elevator floor." How Catarrh Is Contracted Mothers are sometimes so thoughtless as to neglect the colds which their children contract The Inflammation "of the mncus membrane, at -first acute, becomes chronic catarrh, a disease that is seldom cured and that may prove a life's burden. Many persons who have this loathsome disease will remember having - had frequent colds at the time it was contracted. A little forethought, a bottle of Chamberlain's Cough Remedy Judiciously used, and all this trouble might have bees avoided. Obtainable everywhere. Adrv .x : to at A. A. HOFFMAN ILL C. E. Hoffman, manager of the Arcade theatre, has received word of the serious Illness of bis father, A. A. Hoffman at Lockport, N. Y. The elder Mr. Hoffman resided here for about a year during which time ho made many friends. Official photograph taken by the International Film Service behi nd the British lines on the Somme, showing how Tommies have built canvas troughs to keep artillery horses fro m going thirsty between trips back for guns and shells. ' Business fell off materially for A. C. Brown, elevator man at the courthouse yesterday. The reason why, Friday the Thirteenth, of course., Mr. Brown noticed in the morning that the steps at the court house were used more than they had been for several days. He also noticed that the elevator was used less. This started him to thinking. One of his regular patrons came in, but instead of taking the elevator, walked up the steps. Mr. Brown's curiosity got the best of him and be asked for an explanation. "This day is too unlucky," said the Forty-nine factories in the United States make needles and pins, and all report an increase in business.

Syrup of Figs For Cross, Sick Feverish Child If Little Stomach Is Sour, Liver Torpid or Bowels Clogged. Mothers can rest easy after giving "California Syrup of Figs," because in a few hours all the clogged-up waste, sour bile and fermenting food gently moves out of the bowels, and you have a well, playful child again. Children simply will not take the tlm from play to empty their brwels, and tLey become tightly p .cked, liver ge- sluggisu and stomach disordered. When cross, feverish, restless, see if tongue Is coated, then give this delicious "fruit laxative." Children love it, and It can not cause injury. No difference what ails your little r-e- if full of cold, or a sore throat, diarrhoea, stomachache, bad breath, remember, a gentle "inside cleansing" should always be the first treatment given. Full directions for babies, children of all ages and grown-ups are printed on each bottle. Beware of counterflet fig syrups. Ask your druggist for a 50-cent bottle of "California Syrup of Figs," then look carefully and see that it is made by the "California Fig Syrup Company." We make no smaller size. Hand back with contempt any other fig syrup. Adv.
