. One day there arrived in the playroom a Japanese doll named O'Toyo, and all the other (foils and toys stared hard at poor little O'Toyo and wondered what Bhe could be. "It looks to me like a jumplng-jack -with a dress on," said Teddy Bear. "I.saw one once with clothes on, and it was awfully funny, but it had a cap on, and this one has such thick black hair." J think it is one of those creatures they pinch and it claps its hand3 and makes a noise on little brass plates," said the woolly dog. ."But it has no plates in Its hands," eald Teddy Bear. "You don't suppose it is a new kind of doll, do you?" "A doll," sniffed the French dolt Marie. '.'It may be a doll, but I never aw a doll before with a face like that creature. They make pretty dolls rot such faces as that creature has." "Well, you don't seem to know very much about it." said a big Santa ClauB who held a tree in his arm and had been put on a . shelf for next Christmas.. "I can tell you who the new arrival is. She is a Japanese doll all the way from Japan," "A Japanese doll!" repeated Marie, "and you say she came .all the way from Japan. Where is her trunk? I should like to know; surely she did not travel In that horrid kimono?" "That shows how ignorant you are, Marie dear," said Santa Claus. "In Japan they wear a kimono all the time, and she has beautiful hair, don't you think so?" , "If you like thick, straight hair I suppose it is pretty," said Marie, looking at her curls on the dressing table, in front of which she was sitting. The next night the little mistress of the playroom left O-Toyo sitting in a chair close to Marie, and when the midnight hour struck Marie looked at her and said: "I guess you are glad to have on a dress instead of that ugly old kimono?" "Oh, Marie, I am so unhappy," said O-Toyo, "I cannot breathe In this dress and besides that I do not look as pretty as you do In the American dress. How I wish your little mother would not put your clothes on me." Marie was pleased that O-Toyo called her pretty, so she said: "You don't want to wear a kimono all the time do you? There isn't any style to a kimono. I am sure you will look very well when you have your hair curled. "Oh! You do not think 6he will curl my hair, do you?" cried O-Toyo. "I could not bear that." "What, not have your hair curled?" said Marie. "Why, don't they wear curls in Japan?" "Oh, no. Marie, all the ladies there wear their hair smooth and glossy r.nd we have such pretty kimonos and such beautiful flowers and houses with paper windows. Oh, how I wish

I were back in my own dear land!" said poor little O-Toyo. The next night when the clock struck 12 Marie , was wearing O'Toyo's pretty flowered kimono and O'Toyo sat beside her in a pretty muslin dress of Marie's. "Marie, you do look so pretty in my kimono," said O-Toyo. "I wish you could see yourself. Do try to look in the mirror." Marie lifted her head and caught sight of the pretty blue and white kimono. It was very becoming to her, so she smiled. "Well, O-Toyo, I must say that your style of dressing is far more comfortable than our tight clothes," said Marie. "And I like your pretty muslin dress better than the silk one I wore yesterday," said O-Toyo. "Marie, do you think I ever will be stylish like you?" "Oh, yes, I am sure you will," said Marie, "and I do believe your slanting eyes are more becoming to your face than round ones would be. At
first I thought they looked queer, but I like them now." , , . "I am' so " glad," ' said O-Toyo, "because I expect I shall have to keep my eyes the same style. I cannot change them as I can my clothes, but your eyes are very beautiful, Marie, and if I could change my eyes I should wish them 'to' be' big -and blue like yours." "Well, of all things, girls are the queerest, whether they come from Japan, France or any other place,"

Despondency When you feel discouraged and despondent do not give up but take a dose of Chamberlain's Tablets and you are almost certain to feel all right within a day or two. Despondency is very often due to indigestion and biliousness, for which these tablets are especially valuable. Obtainable everywhere. Adv.
Common garden sago brewed into a heavy tea with sulphur and alcohol added, will turn gray, streaked and faded hair beautifully dark and luxuriant, remove every bit of dandruff, stop scalp itching and falling hair. Just a few applications will prove a revelation If your hair is fading, gray or dry, scraggly and thin. Mixing the Sage Tea and Sulphur recipe at home, though, is troublesome. An easier way is to get the ready-to-use tonic, costing about 50 cents a large bottle at drug stores, known as "Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur Compound," thus avoiding a lot of muss. While wispy, gray, faded hair is not sinful, we all desire to retain our youthful appearance and attractiveness. By darkening your hair with Wyeth's Sage and Sulphur, no one can tell, because it does it so naturally, so evenly. You just dampen a sponge or soft brush with it and draw this through your hair, taking one small strand at a time; by morning all gray hairs have disappeared, and, after another application or two, your hair becomes beautifully dark, glossy, soft and luxuriant. said Santa Clans to Teddy-Bear, -who had been on the shelf beside him. "Just listen to those two talking to each other, and how Marie did poke fun at little O-Toyo the first day." "I know it," said Teddy Bear, "but Santa, old boy, it was the clothes question that brought them together.
I-have lived day in and day out with them " all the year round, and -when they talk about dresses and pretty things you can know it is all right between them." "I guess you are right, Teddy, my boy,", replied Santa Claus, "but I must say ' that" little ; O-Toyo has a very
