PAGE TWO BAYARD HALE GETS INTERVIEW VITHPRINGE By WILLIAM BAYARD HALE Headquarters of the Army of the German Crown Prince, West Front (Via Currier to Berlin), SepL 26. "Why, I suppose my most anxious concern is the welfare of my men. I know their labors and their gallantry, and I want to Bee them well fed, well clothed and with a decent place to lay their heads in rest ,1 can't do all I should like to do in the face of the deadly peril that overhangs the Fatherland, but what can be done to make comfortable the lot of these heroes shall be done if my labors and all the resources which I can command can avail to bring it about." It was Sunday morning when I reached the Crown Prince's headquarters. There was a peal of bells clamrooring from the church across the street in every corridor and room of the school building occupied by the Headquarters Staff. Activity was at full tide. The evening before I spent in a treetop in the environs of Verdun, well known to the Crown Prince as an observation point. Problems Confront Prince. T ventured to ask which of all the technical problems interested most deeply the heir of the Hohenzollern, summoned from preparation for the day when he will rule the German people to command an army battling In their defense. When not at the front he devotes practically every hour to the study of various aspects of the tremendous problems which have descended in sobering effect upon this son of an illustrious house. What was the particular task that chiefly engrossem him? The problem of war that principally commanded his attention? The department to which he preferred to five most of his personal attention trtillery attack, pioneer work, trench work or aviation possibilities? Surveys Entire Field, "I have worked at every sort and kind of a problem," said the Crown Prince. "I have surveyed the whole field. You know I had the advantage of a pretty thorough professional training at Charlottenburg, and I trust no phase of the profession of arms is unfamiliar to me. "But I may tell you that I find at last in all my work, plannings and preparations in directing the motions of this vast machine that my thoughts are constantly recurring to the welfare of the men whose lives for the moment are committed to my keeping. "No labor, nor forethought of which I am capable, no technical skill which I can summon, 6hall be lacking to fulfill all that is demanded by this sacred guardianship." "The prospects of peace? I confess I don't see any. I tell you it is no happiness to look forward to spending the third Christmas here at . I have a wife and family as you know." The Prince sighed reflectively and watched the match in his fingers expire. "I have been home just two fortnights in the last two years."

NEW STAGE SETTING FEATURES MINSTREL r- - A form of entertainment which has defied all competition for years is negro minstrelsy and in spite of the counter attractions of the movies, musical comedies, drama and opera, it still holds Its place in the affections of theatregoers. None of the minstrel performers of the past or present have held the affections of the public to a greater degree than Neil O'Brien and the announcement that he and his Great American Minstrels are coming to the Washington theatre will be received with satisfaction. It Is promised by Mr. O'Brien's manager, Oscar F. Hodge that this season everything will be found new and strictly up to date and that a production has been provided both as to scenery and costumes that will quite take the wind out of all competitors. For the first part a new and striking stage setting has been secured and though the details of this have not yet been given out it is expected that it will be quite a surprise to the patrons and admirers of Mr. O'Brien and his minstrel company.

Argentina and Paraguay have concluded a new commercial treaty which provides for practically free trade between the two countries.
