Copyright, 1916, by the McClure FIDO PUPPY Fido Puppy was a very wise puppy, so he thought, but he was very young and would find he had a great deal to learn, so Pete Sparrow told him. Every morning Fido Puppy would run out of the house and bound into the yard as soon as anyone opened the door, and if Pete Sparrow happened to be hunting for worms or btray crumbs left from Fido Puppy's rlate poor Pete Sparrow would be frightened half out of bis senses for ; ft second. "You make more noise than anything else, you do," said Pete from a limb of a tree one day, "and if I were j our master I would teach you to be Loiter mannered than you are." "1 know everything, now," said Fido Puppy. "All I need to do is to grow up to make everybody afraid of me." One morning very early Fido Puppy bounded out of the house, followed by bis master, and they went toward the woods. "Now, I wonder where they can be going this early in the day?" said Pete Sparrow, it Isn't time for folks to be up. I guess I'll fly along and see what they are up to." Pete flew along over their heads, stopping now and then to see what Fido Puppy and his master were doing, but they seemed only bent upon v ulklng in the cool of the morning and Pete Sparrow thought after all he had taken the trouble of. following them for nothing. But pretty soon FJdo Puppy ran ahead of his master and was lost to sight In the woods. Away went Pete Sparrow after him, and found Fido Puppy standing by the brink of a pool of black looking water under some trees. On a log sticking up from the pool was Mrs. Frog and her five little froggics in the cool morning sun. "Bow-wow-wow!" barked Fido Puppy at them, but Mrs. Frog had taught her children not to jump at anything when tbey were on a log surrounded counmement Make known vour rrT'Tv' A wants, or desires.

So they all sat very still and just blinked, not even looking toward Fido Puppy, who barked and Jumped about, making a great noise. "I'll bite you," he barked. But not a move did Mrs. Frog or her little froggles make. They blinked some more. "Ha! Ha!" laughed Pete Sparrow, right over Fido Puppy's head. "You see they are not afraid of you, Fido, and you are much larger than all of them put together, and they can do something you cannot do; they can Jump into the water." "They will be drowned If they do," said Fido Puppy. I heard my master say 60, and I am sure he knows everything." "He didn't mean that frogs would drown," said Pete Sparrow, and while he was talking to Fido Puppy off the log went Mrs. Frog and her froggies into the deep, dark pool. ' "There; I told you they would drown," said Fido looking at the water for a minute. "Where are they if they are not drowned?" "They are very likely setting on the bottom of the pool eating their breakfast and laughing at you for thinking you could scare them," said Pete Sparrow. Just then Mrs. Frog appeared on the log again, and without waiting to ask more questions, into the pool Is

"Oh, oh, oh!" cried Fete Sparrow from the tree, and off he flew, feeling sure Fido Puppy would drown. Up came Fido Puppy to the top of the pool, shaking his head, and gave one loud cry just as he sank again. But, fortunately for him, his master was near and saw what was, happening, and into the pool he went and grabbed Fido Puppy by the neck and shook the water off him. "What were you trying to do; you silly pup?" said his master .-Yod-will be drowned some day If you try that before you learn how to swim." Fido ate his breakfast and curled up for a nap in the sun for he was not quite dry, when from the tree he heard Pete Sparrow say: "How did you get out, Fido? I thought you were drowned." "I just came out the way Mrs. Frog did," said Fido Puppy, looking at Pete with one eye. "It is easy enough when you know how to swim." "But I didn't think you could swim," said Pete Sparrow, looking at Fido with his sharp eyes. Pete looked at him a minute and then flew away. "Such airs as those puppies give themselves when they begin to grow. I wish I had stayed by the pool and seen just what did happen." How to Lose Your Tan, j Freckles or Wrinkles I A day's motoring, an afternoon on the tennis ground or golf links, a sunbath on the beach or exposure on a sea trip, often brings on a deep tan or vivid crimson or more perplexing still, a vigorous crop of freckles. A very necessary thing then is mercolized wax, which removes tan, redness or freckles quite easily. It literally peels off the affected skin just a little at a time, so there's no hurt or injury. As the skin comes off in almost invisible flaky particles, no trace of the treatment Is shown. Get an ounce of mercolized wax at your druggist's and use this nightly as you would cold cream, washing it off mornings. In a week or so you will have an entirely new skin, beautifully clear, transparent and of a most delicate whiteness. Wrinkles, so apt to form at this season, may be easily and quickly removed by bathing the face in a solution of powdered saxolite, 1 oz., dissolved in witch hazel, pint This Is not only a valuable astringent, but has a beneficial tonic effect also.
