SNOW IS MADE AT BIG TENT 8Y WILLIAMS
Snow fell on the Chautauqua grounds last night. This fact is avowed to by the large audience which saw the snow fall, and by the fortunate ones who were pelted with snow balls. The snow did not come as a result of the "cold wave," but was made on the Chautauqua platform as a sort of grand finale to the program dealing with the wonders of electricity, presented by Louis Williams. Mr. Williams made the "snow" by allowing liquified carbon dioxide, under pressure in a tank, to flow into a flannel bag, where it solidified and produced a very low temperature. The solidified carbon dioxide, which looked much like snow, and was many degrees colder, was thrown out in the audience. Explains Fundamentals. Mr. Williams began his lecture by explaining the fundamentals of chemical action and electrical phenomona. Mr. Williams possesses the ability to discuss in popular terms, yet with scientific accuracy and thoroughness, facts which ordinarily could not be clearly presented to a Chautauqua audience. One of the most amusing of Mr. Williams' experiments, performed merely to entertain the audience, was that of changing the voice with hydrogen gas. A boy was asked to repeat "Mary had a little lamb," so that the audience might know his natural voice, then he inhaled a bag of hydrogen, and repeated the verse. His voice was hollow, muffled, and totally unrecognizable. Mr. Williams closed his program with experiments in high tension and high voltage. Electric current with a voltage five times that required to
kill a person was passed through the
bodies of two boys, and they felt no sensation. Holding an electric light between them they were able to fight
It by the current passing through their
bodies, and their sin became so hot that matches touched to their faces
Ignited instantly.

A slight frost which touched only the lowlands, and creek bottoms this morning did no . damage whatever to late crops," according to local agriculturists, who see in the early display of crystal stuff a cool fall and early winter. Last night's display of Jack Frost did no harm what ever outside of disturbing the sleep of a good many persons, who found themselves hunting up last winter's covers at about 2 o'clock this morning. KORlrlA MACK
Miss Norma Mack, daughter of Norman E.; Mack, Democratic national committeeman, holds the record today of being the first woman to make a safe flight over Niagara falls. She made her trip in a hundred horsepower army aeroplane, piloted by Lieutenant Philip Rader. To journey from the aerodome, including a spiral above the cataract and return, took only twenty-two minutes. The fliers encountered a stiff breeze on the way out, and it was heavier on the return. Her father and mother were waiting for her at the aerodome. As soon as Miss Mark stepped from the machine, she slipped off her goggles and helmet and hurried to them. "I wasn't a bit afraid," shs declared. "The aeroplane rides smoother than an automobile." It Is estimated that the average speed of Miss Mack's aeroplane on the trip was seventy-eight miles an hour.
