STAID BY UNIONS, SAYS GLENN FRANK

"Even in the face of a great railroad strike which may bring a grave condition to the country I say that labor ought to stand for collective bargaining and group action," declared Glenn Frank, in the course of his lecture at chautauqua last night. "It is only a surprise to me that there is a single laboring man in America outside the labor organizations." Mr. Frank predicted, however, that European competition in American markets after the war would result in a struggle of laboring man against laboring man, because of the lowering of labor demand.

ATKINSONS

How to Beautify a Summer Soiled Face

It's really a simple matter to renovate a face soiled by sun, winds or dirt. Ordinary mercolized wax, used like cold cream, will transform the worst old complexion into one of snowy whiteness and velvety softness. It literally peels off the outer veil of surface skin, but so ently, gradually, there's no discomfort. The wornout skin comes off, not in patches, but evenly, in tiny particles, leaving no evidence of the treatment The younger, healthier under-skin forming the new complexion, is one of captivating loveliness. One ounce of mercolized wax, to be had at any drugstore, is enough to remove any tanned, reddened, pimpled, freckled or blotchy skin. Apply before retiring, washing it off mornings. Many skins wrinkle easily with every wind that blows, with heat, worry, etc. An excellent wrinkle remover, because it tightens the skin and strengthens relaxed muscles, is a wash lotion made as follows: Powdered saxolite, 1 oz., dissolved in witch hazel, Vs pt. This gives immediate results. Adv.

This company, made up of six members, features Hawaiian songs, accompanied by flute, violin and guitar, and solos on the Hawaiian instruments, the ukalele and the steel guitar. The whole tone of the program was distinctly popular, and the response of the audience was enthusiastic in proportion. Especially the numbers on the steel guitar, played by Major Kealakai, who is the inventor of the instrument, were well received. The members of the company are Major Kealakai, Miss Uluwehi, Jake Kumalae, Miss Vining, L. A. Vineburg, and T. K. Hennessey.

DIRTY STREETS LEAD WHITE TO COMPLAIN

Councilman John White at council meeting last night entered a vigorous protest over the" failure of the streei department to keep the paved streets of the city in a cleanly condition. "I am getting mighty tired of having people complain to me over the filthy condition of our paved streets," White said. "Fort Wayne avenue, for instance, is a disgrace to the city. We have a new sweeper and it ought to be kept in constant service." White also protested because better care was not taken of the asphalt streets. White's complaints were referred to the board of works.

Movie Actresses and Their Hair

Did It ever occur to you that every movie actress you have seen has lovely ' hair, while the most popular count their curls as their chief beauty? In fact, (this Is a secret.) many are leading ladies just because of their attractive locks. Inquiry among them discloses the fact that they bring out all the natural beauty of their hair by carefui shampooing, not with any soap or makeshift, but with a simple mixture which they make up for themselves by putting a teaspoonful of canthrox, (which they get from the druggist), in a cup of hot water and applying this instead of soap. After its use their hair dries rapidly, with uniform color. Dandruff. excs oil and dirt are dissolved and entirely disappear. The hair Is so fluffy that it looks much heavier than it is. Its lustre and softness is delightful, while the stimulated scalp gains the health which insures hair growth. Adv.
