the league's upkeep. The league is not self-supporting, and while it incurs but little expense, a benefit is necessary to place the organization on a sound footing financially. Four of the strongest teams of the circuit are in action at AthleticIndianapolis Glove and National Automatic, league leaders at present, will mix it in a game that promises to be one of the best of the season.
NO CHOIR LOFTS AT NEW CASTLE Richmond high school basketball fans, who have yet to forget the Richmond-New Castle game and discomfort attendant that performance in the "Rose City choir loft," need not fear a repetition of last winter's trip. With the completion of the new Jennings Coliseum New Castle has a basketball hall and floor the exact duplicate of the Richmond Coliseum. Basketball standards of the latest type, with glass banking boards, have been installed, giving New Castle one of the most up-to-the-minute basketball equipments in the state. STARR GIVES $100 Donations of $100 from the Starr Piano company for - the families of Officers Stephenson and Little were received by Chief of Police Goodwin today. The letter instructs Goodwin to distribute the money properly between the two families. THRESHES RECORD CROP Irwin Doddridge threshed fifteen acres of oats whic'a made 536 bushels of excellent quality yesterday. He procured the seed from the northwest. STANDARDS FOR Continued from pace One be next to the curb in front of the property line of the block for which the system has been petitioned. Compliance with the law means that holes for the foundations of the standards at Fourth, Fifth and Sixth streets must be filled and other holes made on Main street. The cost of this change will be approximately $7 for each hole. Poles Opposite Each Other. In addition to this extra cost, the change while placing all the poles in line will mean. that, standards at the above intersections will be opposite instead of zig-zag, as planned. Alfred Bavis, president of the board, said there was no question but that the arrangement and plans drawn by tlie City Engineer and Mr. Kleinknecht and on which the contractor bid was the best from the standpoint of expediency, but that he felt the change should be made to prevent loss to the city in the event any property owner took advantage of the technicality to fight payment of his assessment. Chance to Obviate Scheme. Petitions for Installing of the ornamental system on Seventh and Eighth streets may obviate the necessity of setting standards on Main street instead of just around the corner, in Mr. Bond's opinion, but he contended that from an aesthetic motive the change should be made. Immediately the question arose as to whether the board could and would move the corner light at Ninth and Main, installed as a part of the Ninth street improvement. Indications that, change in location of any of the standards would necessitate other changes in the system led the board to postpone action until late this afternoon, when the board, City Engineer Charles, Superintendent Kleinknecht and Attorney Bond will survey the length of Main street. LITTLE BASS PLAY WHILE OLD PARENTS STRUGGLE FOR FOOD Little care is required for the hatchery of the Wayne County Game and Fish association. There is almost enough natural food in the ponds to furnish food. The young bass which will be liberated in the county streams some time in September get no food except what they catch around the pond. Thousands of them confined in a small body of water are growing nicely. It is necessary to feed the parent fish about two times a week. They are confined in a separate pond from the young ones and because of their size require much more food. The old bass are becoming very tame and of Rats. Mice

'Prevent Serious Fire. All the. structures damaged were situated upon an alley intersection affording the firemen access from four directions. With several streams of water playing on the blaze the department prevented a spread of what might have been a serious conflagration. Pat Schute's barn was a total loss. The fire had such good headway that it was impossible to save the mule team which was quartered in the stable. Mr. McLeland said today he could not replace the team for $300. The roof of the barn at Joe Berg's house, 611 North Eighth street, was badly damaged.
