one agrees with him that a reporter who does not represent the true facts is an undesirable citizen. There is one phase of the situation, however, that Gen. Funston cannot repress, "and that is that the National Guard came to the border unprepared and incapable of going into action.- Every big newspaper' in "the country remembered the scenes attending the mobilization of soldiers for the Cuban campaign. The mismanagement that took place then, the scandal connected with the food supply, made every newspaper wonder what would happen this time. They took no chances, so they sent their best men to watch the situation closely. These men discovered some facts that the military authorities did not like. As a matter of fact, the American people do not feel safe about their army and navy. They know that the nation is unprepared. This feeling cannot be denied. Hence, the people are thankful that the newspapers sent their men to the border to report the first flagrant abuses that might arise. The American people want to know if the United States army really is in position to repel a foe. They want to know how adequately we are prepared. The correspondents gave the public the facts they wanted. Gen. Funston need not take umbrage at the work of these men. They "were merely given the public that which it is entitled to know.

A farmer came into the office yesterday and said that he and his neighbors had fought the motorization of the routes when the system was being established because air did not move just right from the first, but that they are ready to apologize to the post office now.
