MAHER DENIES SELLING UNLABELED HAMBURGER
Before a Jury In city court today, John F. Maher Is eontendlag that hamburger sold at his meat market was marked as containing cereals. Maher Is charged with selling adulterated meat products, without labeling them as Buch. Gordon Gaylor and Floyd Nusbaum testified that they purchased the hamburger of Frank Ennis, an employe of the Maher shop and that they saw Inspector McKinley seal the package for shipment to the state department of pure foods at Indianapolis. McKinley and Mr. Bishop, chemist from the department, told the Jury that the meat contained cereal flour, which is per
mitted if the package is labeled. They testified, however, that this particular package was not marked. John Maher, proprietor of the market, Frank Ennis and Fern Showalter, employes, asserted that the hamburger was labeled as containing the cereal substance. " The case went to the Jury about 3 o'clock this afternoon. Jurors were: J. Henry Bode, Alex C. Whitely, Amos Henning, Walter Hart, Charles Kriemeier, William J. Hiatt, A. M. Roberts, J. M. Dickson, C. E. Townsend, Reese Ryan, William Widup and Henry Stein.
CITY OFFICIALS CLAIM BAVIS PLAN WOULD BELIEVE FIRE SPRINKLER USERS
P!ty officials tod3y pxpressed the belief that E. M. Haas, secretary of the Commercial club, was without complete information as to the city's stand in the water rate case. Officials stand by their original contention that such rates should be fixed for concerns having a consumption of more than 80,000 gallons of water, meeting the deficit on those corporations which had failed to reduce their fire hazards by installing the automatic sprinkler systems. They took issue with Mr. Haas' statement that the commission ordered the city to pay 32 per cent of the water company's total revenue. In the original order, based upon a valuation of $750,000 it was found that the MOORE'S EXPLANATION OF TORRID WEATHER
The only chance of this territory getting any temporary relief from the great hot wave which has settled down on it is through a thunderstorm which may come at any time and which may not come at all. This information was given out today by Weatherman Moore. The great hot wave is due to a great rea of high barometric pressure from he Atlantic ocean and the central part of the Bermuda islands. It shows no signs of breaking up. Low barometric pressure over the great western plains is causing generally clear weather throughout the Mississippi valley.

city was paying 32 per cent of the company's revenue of $864000. Recently the valuation for rate making purposes has been increased to $850,000. City officials point out that the city should not be required to meet 32 per cent of the increased revenue demanded by this new valuation. This, they say, -would make the cost of fire protection In Richmond exhorbitant because the city has not expanded in size enough to warrant payment of any additional amount.

SOCIALISTS TO VOTE ON NATIONAL ISSOES
JOHNSON TO REMAIN HERE INDEFINITELY
Transfer of X. H. Johnson, manager of the L. H. & P. company's local gas business to some electric plant controlled by this same corporation is improbable for an" indefinite period. Mr. Johnson states that regardless of rumors to the contrary he will remain in Richmond for several months. The company has no intention of transferring him at present.
Local Socialists are being asked their opinion on a number of national
issues in a referendum vote to deter
mine the character of the party platform. The referendum is being conducted by the national committee. Among the planks which are being considered are those calling for repeal of all laws for increasing the army and navy, depriving the president of power to lead the nation into war, that no war shall be declared without a referendum vote to the people except to repell invasion, the abandonment of the Monroe doctrine, and other simi lar measures.

There are always the well-known and semi-humorous methods, such as saying brunettes are quick-tempered or blonds are keener in their mental activity. But there is real common sense in just noticing whether the hair is well-kept to judge a woman's neatness, or iu looking at her style of arranging her hair, to decide whether or not she has good taste. If you are one of the few who try to make the most of your hair, remember that it is not advisable to wash the hair with any cleanser made for all purposes, but always use some good preparation made expressly for shampooing. You can enjoy the very best Jay getting some canthrox from your druggist and dissolving a teaspoonful in a cup of hot water when your shampoo is all ready. After its use the hair dries rapidly with uniform color. Dandruff, excess oil and dirt are dissolved and entirely disappear. Your hair will be so fluffy that it will look much heavier than it is. . Its lustre and softness will also delight you, while the stimulated scalp gains the health which insures hair growth. Adv.
