As a courtesy to Misses Honeywood Parish, Berry Walcutt, Ambrose Anderson of Midway, Ky., who are among the guesta at a house party at the A. D. Gaylo home, Miss Elizabeth Marvel, North Tenth street, gave a theatre party this afternoon. After the performance the guests were entertained at the Marvel -home. Those who enjoyed the function were Mifses Esther Coate, Ruth Pennell, Emerald Hasecoster, Louise Malsby, Helen Nicholson, Ruth Scott, Mary Clements, Ann Nicholson, Katherine Quigg, Josephine Wilson. Martha Scott, Honeywood Parish, Berry Walcutt and Ambrose , Anderson; Mesdames John Clements. Edward Williams and Miss Lillian Julian "of Lexington, Ky., a uete of Mrs. Williams. Miss Florence King, president of the Richmond Franchise league, has called a meeting of the board of directors for 10 o'clock Friday morning at her home, 24 South Ninth street, to discuss plans for the suffrage demonstration to be made at the Chautauqua on August 24, at which time Mrs. Mabel Dunlop Curry will make a' suffrage address.

Mrs. Charles Miller will have charge of the devotional exercises. Mrs. Elmira Cramer will read a missionary paper, Mrs. Edgeworth, missionary reading, Miss Martha Wilson a missionary among the mountaineers, talks on her work. Members are invited. Mikesell has been appointed to arrange for the August picnic. Mr. and Mrs. W. B. Dye and Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Sharkey are leaving Monday for a trip to Pittsburg, Baltimore, Washington, New York and other points. Thirty-five persons attended the picnic supper given last evening in Glen Miller Park by members of the Tirzah aid society of the Ben Hur lodge. Husbands and families of the members were in attendance. The society meets again next Wednesday afternoon at Glen Miller Park. . - Mrs, Harry Townsend yesterday entertained the Narcissus Embroidery club. It was decided to secure a rest tent at the Chautauqua for members of the club and their families. Mrs. Joseph Pbenis entertains the club in two weeks, 313 Richmond avenue. A dance will be given Friday evening at the Cliff Dale Auto club. The Musical Brownes will play. The Francis Wrillard W. C. T. U. will elect trustees August 11. The place meeting will be anounced later. Twenty members of the aid society of , the. East Main Street Friends church enjoyed a picnic party yesterday afternoon and evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. C. E. Newman. The men came out for supper. , The Coterie club held a picnic this afternoon and evening on the lawn at theNorth A Street Friends church. The families of the members were guests. The annual picnic of the Bethany Bible class of the Second English Lutheran church was held last evening at Glen Miller Park. Miss Opal Osborn entertained members of the L. A. class of the East Main Street Friends church last evening. The guests were Mrs. Edwards, Misses Thelma Campbell, Doris Puckett, Marietta Coles, Lucy Dennis, Ruth and Ellen Foulk, Majorie Edwards, Thelma Welch, Louise Overman and Agnes Osborn. The Dorcas society of the Earlham Heights Presbyterian church will not meet in August. The September meeting will be held the first Thursday in September. With the lawn gaily decorated with flags and Japanese lanterns a successful ice-cream social was given last

evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. R. McQueen, North F street, by the members of the aid society of the United Brethren church. Picnics -were features of Wednesday's social calendar and a most enjoyable one was given in the evening by the members of the Queen Esther Society of Grace M. E. church at Glen Miller Park. Miss Lenore Leis, the two-year-old daughter of Mr. and Mrs. H. F. Leis, of Dayton, was entertained 'Saturday afternoon by her aunt, Miss Neva Showalter, North Fourteenth street. The guests were Mrs. John Aikin and her two-year-old daughter, Miss Helen, Mrs. Lewis' Quigley and daughter, Mary Pauline. A picture of the children was taken. The Big Brother class of the Grace M. E. church gave a picnic last evening at the home of Mr. anti Mrs. Vernon Reid, Henley road. The attendance was good and a delicious supper was served. Mrs. Richard Wigmore entertained members of the Penny club yesterday afternoon at her home, South Seventh street. The members present numbered thirty. The afternoon was spent socially and with needlework. A delicious luncheon was served. In two weeks the club will give a picnic. A joint meeting of the Ladies and Pastor's Union of the Grace M. E. church was held yesterday afternoon at the church. Members of section three were the hostesses. After a short business session the following program was presented: Piano solo, Mrs. Noblett; vocal solo, Miss Maxine Noblett with piano accompaniment by Mrs. Noblett; poem, Mrs. Tolliver, Riley records on Victrola; reading, "The Kissing Rod," Miss Edna Hort; reading, "Where Has He Gone," Mrs. Close; piano solo, Miss Alice Daffler. A social hour followed and refreshments were served. On account of Chautauqua there "will be no August meeting. Miss Nellie Marlatt, National Road, West, is in Greenfield visiting Miss Jessie Brook. Later she will go to Indianapolis to spend a week with Mrs. Carter Dunnington. Mrs. Dunnington was formerly Miss Agnes Karns of this city. A picnic party was given last evening at the home of Mr. and Mrs. J. O. Wilson, West Fifth and Asylum avenue, by the Young People's Union of the Reid Memorial U. P. chrrch. Francis Anscombe performed the ceremony. Mr. and Mrs. Mitchell left this morning on a motor trip north. Upon their return thy will be at home at Kappa, Indiana. The Epworth League of Doddridge Chapel did not give a play "How the Vote Was Won," last Saturday evening, as had been planned.
