Country club activities are wbat$ really seem attractive during the present torrid weather and the supperdance arranged by the July social committee composed of Mrs. Julian Cates, Mrs. Rudolph G. Leeds and Mrs. Ray K. Shiveley with Mrs. Edgar F. Hlatt, house committee for the month, Friday evening came as a welcome relief after the warm day. The eclipse of the moon which was visible last evening attracted a number of the guests as it was very plain from the club veranda. Mr. Paul Harris at the piano and Mr. Smith at the drums, furnished the dance music. Supper was served at 6:30 o'clock to fifty-,wo guests and after supper a number of the members augmented Ibe party and enjoyed dancing until a late hcur. For the pleasure of Misses Kather ine Kendrick, Leona Beard and Erma Hower of Dayton, Ohio, Misses Olive Lewis and Grace Kelly gave a prettily appointed luncheon today at 1 o'clock at the Country club. Garden flowers in bright colors intermingled with the greenery formed a centerpiece for the table. Covers were laid for Misses Leona Beard, Katherine Kendrick, Erma Hower of Dayton, Ohio, Nanette Falk, Ann Nicholson, Elizabeth Marvel, Katherine Qulgg. Miriam Krone, Olive Lewis nnd Grace Kelly. The afternoon was spent playing bridge. Mrs. George Fox, Alvin A. Fox with Miss Pauline Haas of Bay City, Michigan, left today for Indianapolis where Mr Fox will be married Tuesday evening at 5:30 o'clock at the Denison hotel in Indianapolis to Miss Claudina Steinberger. They will attend a number of nuptial events to be given previous to the marriage. Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Mauzy of Rushvllle ore the parents of a baby daughter, born yesterday. Mr. and Mrs. Earl Bescher of Dayton, Ohio, are the proud parents of a baby daughter, born this morning. Mr. Bescher is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Baltz A. Bescher. Mullen, 119 Chestnut street Cards have been received announcing the marriage of Mr. Errett Haisley, son of - Mr. and Mrs. Freeman F. Haisley of Cleveland, Ohio, who formerly had a residence on South Thirteenth street, to Miss Ophelia Clapp of Battle Creek, Mich. Mr. and Mrs. Haisley are residing In Indianapolis. They were married June 29. Euchre was played at four tables. Favors were given to those making the highest scores. ;- A reception was given last evening from 8 until 11 o'clock by Mrs. Charles Dove at her home, South Eleventh street, in honor of the members of the Loyal Daughters class of the First Christian church. Nasturtiums, sweet peas and ferns were used in ornamenting the rooms. Mrs. Robert Wilson and Miss Margaret Hinshaw assisted Mrs. Dove in receiving the guests. Misses Evelyn Shoemaker, Sadie Pottenger and Elizabeth Hunt presided at the punch bowl. The guests numbered fifty.
Members of a card club were entertained yesterday afternoon by Mrs. Charles Allstadt at her home, South Eighth street. Mrs. Louis Geis and Mrs. Gordon Ribble of Indianapolis, were special guests. Favors were given Mrs. Harry Mills and Mrs. Walter Woodworth. A delicious lnncheon was served. In two weeks, Mrs. John Evers entertains the club. An entertainment and reception will be given Monday evening at the North Fourteenth Street Mission in honor of the new pastor and his wife. Rev. and Mrs. J. F. Propst. A short program will be given and there will be special music. The visiting nurse, Miss Mahin made a splendid talk Friday afternoon when the Woman's League of the North Fourteenth Street Mission met at the Mission house. Despite the warm weather the attendance was large. Refreshments were served. Miss Alice Vossler, a student.at Indiana University, Bloomington, Ind., is spending the week-end with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. A. Vossler North Sixteenth street. Mrs. Creager, South Eighth street, was hostess Friday afternoon for a meeting of the Hiawatha Social and Literary society. The guests spent the afternoon socially and with music. Refreshments were served. The hostess for the next meeting will be announced later. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Heins and Master Robert Ross are spending their vacation at Eauclaire Lake. They will also spend some time at various points in Wisconsin. Mrs. William Moffett, Mrs. Iva Rau, Mrs. Charles Rau and Mrs. Ida Hill are leaving today on a motor trip.
