JAMES NOTES MEN'S CHANGE TO DRY RANKS

Twenty-four deaths fronT infantile paralysis was the official record today for the past twenty-four hours, an increase of seven over the day before. Of these, eighteen occurred in Brooklyn. There are now 682 cases of the disease being treated in hospitals, most of them in King's county. STOCK ALL CREEKS WITH FINE BASS Between twenty-five and fifty thousand small bass will be liberated in the Wayne county streams from the Gams and Fish Protestive Association ponds, John Holaday, president of the ascociation said today. This will by far be the largest number that have been liberated. The spawning pond was not ver successful last year because the big bass and the, young one had to.be kept in the same pond.' U-' - ; The new, arrangement is a much, more 'successful plan," Mr. Holaday said. Now there is a wintering pond, a hatching pond and a pool for th young fish.' The young bass are now about an inch long and are large enough to be liberated now but they will be retained until some time in September. This will give the fish a very good start and fewer of them will die when liberated, it is urged. AUTHORIZES PAVING OXF1RD,. O., July 13. EXPECT STATE TO GET SLICE OF ROAD FUND
The ' federal good roads bill has passed both houses of congress and was signed by President Wilson last Tuesday," Under its. provision Indiana w.ill receive more than $2,000,000 for road building and road improvement, provided the state establishes a highway department, but if Indiana refuses to establish such a department, she will lose' that aid from the government - . x Wayne 'county has headed a movement to secure the establishment and now the entire Sixth district is organized for the nnrnnsA nf wtHn? the establishment of such a department, .wun josepn Mills, Richmond, president. ' Mr., Mills said today that the Sixth district association believes that there is no doubt but that the next legislature will provide for a commission and it is now devoting its time" to getting the citizens of the state interested in this commission so that the best kind available will be put into force.. The plan is to get each district to prepare a -bill -and-then have the legislature take the best parts out of all the district drafts. Decker, Milton, filed suit for divorce from'Joseph Decker in circuit court today. She charges the husband with desertion. They were married September 8, 1900, and have not lived together since September, 1907. The plaintiff asks that the defendant be made to stand the charges of the suit.

THREE PERSONS DIE IN 'POWDER FACTORY HASKILL,: N. J., July IS. At least three persons were: killed and fifteen others were injured by an explosion in the Ballcite mill of the DePont Powder works here , today. Two buildings were destroyed. So terrific was the force of the explosion that persons two miles away ' were knocked to the ground. ; . TAYLOR SELLS WHEAT The first load of new . wheat to be received by the Champion Roller Mills was brought in this afternoon at 1:30 o'clock. ' The boy is in pity Juvenile court with a charge of murder, against him. Harry ; went next door where the Pretini.boy Jived and took the toys off the porch. He . kept them a little while and the little Pretini boy went after them.
