DRILL WITH RIFLES PLEASES COMSTOGK

Springfield rifles, borrowed from the Spanish American war veterans, were used by Captain Comstock's rookies in their drill last night at the Rumely building. About forty men attended and were Instructed in the manual of arms. The next meeting of the squad will be at 7:30 o'clock on Friday evening.

PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH ' TO FROLIC AT PARK

The annual picnic of the Earlfcam Heights Presbyterian church will be held Saturday afternoon and evening at Glen Miller park. Special cars to carry the picnickers will leave the Easthaven grocery store, Easthaven avenue, at 1 o'clock Saturday afternoon. A program of games for children of different ages has been arranged for the afternoon. Baseball games have also been scheduled. A basket supper will be served at 5 o'clock.

British midshipmen are promoted to the rank of sublieutenants after three years If their examinations are satisfactory.

DIRECTORS OF FAIR WILL ENGAGE BAND

EATON, O., July 13. Selection of a band to furnish music during the coming county fair will be made at the next meeting of the board of directors of the Preble County Agricultural society. A meeting has been announced for Saturday, but because of the absence of one member, Jesse L. Haston, it is likely to be postponed. Haston was summoned to Sterling, Kan., on account of the death of a brother.

COPPOCK PROMISES TO HELP COMSTOGK

Lieutenant Edward R. Coppock, state recruiting officer, while here inspecting the office yesterday announced that he has been authorised to, instruct the Indiana stations to undertake the recruiting of militiamen for Federal service. "Throughout the entire state, preliminary steps are being taken to form National Guard companies,", the officer said.
