Donald Beck, star second baseman on this year's Columbia University riine, has refused a fat contract with the Detroit Tigers. Beck) who is conceded to be the best college second baseman in the game this year, was approached by several big league magnates, but has decided not to enter the pre feisional game for the present, at least. He has taken a position with a New York transportation company.
YOUNG PEOPLE AUTO TO OSBORNE'S LAKE CENTER VILLE, July 10. Mr. and Mrs. Will Barton chaperoned an auto party of young people to Osborne's Lake for an all day picnic Friday. Those who enjoyed the good time were Mioses Laurabel Stevens, Josephine Barton and Mary Wilson, Mesdames James Pulle, Raymond Bertsch of Centerville and Wm. Renninser ot Grecnsburg The C W. B. M. of the Christian church met Wednesday with Vra. John Jackson north of Centerville. all of the members excepting two were present and a very interesting and instructive meeting was held. The took of study "Forty Years of Service" was discussed by Mrs. Lenna Kings; papers on missionary work were read by Mra. Delia Burris and Mrs. Leroy Kimmel. Little Helen Jackson recited a selection which was very pleasing. At the close of the program Mrs. Jackson served a dainty lunch. Gleaners' Class Meets. The Gleaners, a Sunday School-ciass of the M. E. church weer entertained Wednesday evening , by Mrs. Bruce Dunbar. The evening was spent socially and with music ;; refreshments were also served.. . ..Mr. and Mrs. Ed Ball and son Levere, Jerome Ball and family of Richmond, and Miss Beatrice Hough of Covington, Ky.r spent Friday evening with Mr. and Mrs. Frank Buhl. WEDS EATON COUPLE EATON, 0., July 10. Clem Snyaer, sou of George Snyder, of Washington township, and Miss Gertrude Marie Heckman; daughter of Mr. and Mrs. A. L. Heckman, weer married 8unday morning by Rev. T. A. Cooper, of Barron Street Church of Christ, at his home on East Montfort street. The couple will reside temporarily with the bridegroom's parents, who live three miles northeast of the city. WHEAT ESTIMATED AT 60 PER CENT EATON, O., July 10. A crop of wheat estimated at about 60 per cent of the normal acreage has been cut by Preble county farmers and proba bly will be threshed during the next two weeks. The quality of the grain is reported to be extra fine. The decreased acreage' this - season was caused by the extremely unfavorable weather last fall, when farmers were unable to dispose of the corn crop In time to sow wheat. JUST ONE GUESS.
