CHICAGO, July 7. Better cable and heavy rains In the northwest made for a strong opening In wheat on the board today and prices were up substantially from last night's close. Trading was fairly active. July opened at $1.03, September at $1.0H. Corn showed pronounced strength at tho start. Shortly after the opening, however, a rush of selling sent prices down ic from the high mark, and a weakness developed. July opened at 77i4c, September at 74 c. Oats opened steady to strong pnd maintained that tone In the early hours.. September opened at 384c. While the market failed to hold up to the highest prices of the day the undercurrent was one of strength and closings showed net gainst of l,i to c. Cash sales here were only 28,000 bushels of wheat, 200,000 bushels of corn and 185,000 bushels of oats. Corn closed c higher to unchanged to c lower, and oats were up c to He. In the picture a transport train is going through La Cruces Canyon, where a mere handful of Mexicans, hidden on the slopes of the defile could wipe out the train with ease.
