. (Continued From Page One. and. a depth of 110 feet along North Eighti street. Building Is Modern. The construction of the building Is as modern as scientific engineering can provide. The foundation Is of large reinforced concrete piers, while the building itself is carried on a steel skeleton of columns, beams and girders all riveted together, weighing many tons. The building, which was built for the exclusive use of the bank, is of Grecian architecture, and constructed of gray Georgian granite quarried in Stone Mountain, Georgia. It is unusually massive In appearance and immediately conveys to one the impression of security and solidttf. The two beautiful columns running almost the entire height of the building form the entrance to the building proper. The main entrance doors to the bank are bronze with heavy plate glass, the glass .being protected with a bronze grill. The vestibule walls are of Pocahontas marble and access to the banking room is gained through a pair of double acting mahogany doors. Interior Is Artistic. A glance at the lnt- ; -r of the banking room indicates. rly that nothing has been spared r.iake it complete In every detail, both from the standpoint of convenience as well s artistic beauty. The room is exceptionally well lighted from the
street side With " large windows" and sky-light; at night with two large cast bronze chandeliers hung in the lobby, and an Indirect lighting system. The color scheme used for the wall decoration is in rich, deep old Ivory and brown tones, blending harmoniously with the marble in the main lobby and -lending a very quiet and pleasing effect to the entire interior. The floor In the main banking room is of Tennessee marble while the counters and railing throughout are in Italian marble, - quarried In northern Italy. The cages, consultation rooms and officers' quarters are all finished in a rich brown mahogany. The grill work surrounding the lobby is of cast bronze. Lobby Occupies Center. The room is designed with a center lobby, through which are distributed two beautiful electrically lighted check desks, a drinking fountain and several seats all built of marble, adding much to the ornamentation of the room. Immediately upon entering are two attractive waiting rooms; one for the use of the general public, and the other equipped with all modern facilities for the exclusive use of women. The furnishings in this latter room are all in the Martha Washington style and is one of the most unique features of the entire interior equipment and one certain, to be appreciated by the ladies of this community. On the one ide of the lobby are arranged the tellers' and book keepers' cages. On the opposite side are the o.T.ccrs' quarters", the trust depart

ment, and the consultation "rooms. Two of these consultation rooms are located just upon entering the banking room, conveniently , situated for the bank's customers and the entire public, to be used-by them .for the purpose of meeting their friends and holding committee meetings, etc. The idea is entirely novel and. one of which the public will be certain to avail Itself. -. Install Electric Elevator. The company attorneys' offices on the second floor and the directors' room on the third floor are reached by an electric elevator. Throughout the banking room is an lnter-com-municating telephone system, making it possible to talk to persons in all parts of the bank without having to leave their desks. All the desks, chairs, book-trucks and every part of the bank's equipment will be new and finished in brown mahogany to match in color the other woodwork. Perhaps the most prominent feature of the entire bank is the massive safety deposit vault, which is one of the finest in the state. Its approximate weight is more than forty-five tons and is the strongest vault of any bank in Richmond. The large circular door alone weighs twelve tons and the hinge on which it is hung weighs two tons, but is so finely, adjusted that little, if any, strength is required to open and close it. Closed by 24 Bolts. It Is kept closed with twenty-four bolts, which are controlled with two combination and four time locks, all working independently of each other. On the one side of the vault are 700

private safety Ceposit boxes'," of "which more than one-half are already rented. On the opposite side is a battery of money chests, in which the bank's money and securities are kept. Just outside of the safety deposit vault is a separate fire-proof vault in whio the bank's books and records will be kept. The , entrance to the vault lobby is guarded with a heavy bronze grill, the gate of which is electrical! controlled. Another very interesting feature in this new building and which has the unique distinction of being the first system of its kind installed in any building in this city is the ventilating system. By means of a system of electric blowing fans and an arrangement known as an air washer, the air in the banking room is automatically changed seven times every hour, exhausting all the foul air and bringing into the building again pure fresh air. Temperature Regulated. Throughout the rooms are placed several small thermostats which automatically regulate the temperature. These thermostats, through a series of dampers and compressed air, control the volume and temperature, opening or closing dampers as the temperature outside the building may vary and maintaining an even temperature in the rooms at all times. This insures good, healthful working conditions for the bank's employes, as well as adding to the comfort of its patrons during the transaction of their business. The officers of Dickinson Trust
