Death was due : tr tensorrhage from ulceration of the htomach. He -was born near Centerrllle Nov. ' 24. 1839. His parents were Joseph -and Mary Jackson. He was reared on the farm and educated In the Center, ville schools. At the ago of 21 years, 9 -H. h tam to Cambridge City where he --wwas employed as ticket agent of the ,jid Indiana Central railroad. This shows approximately the pres. ent disposition of General Pershing's command and of the Mexican troops in his vicinity. It has been known for some time that General Pershing had moved his headquarters north from Mamiquipa.to Colonia Dublan, but it was not made public until a few days ago that he had moved all his troops north and abandoned the Namiquipa region. The bulk of his army of 12 000 men is now around Colonio Dublan, strongly entrenched.

MEEK GIVES TALK AT FOUNTAIN CITY

FOUNTAIN CITY. Ind., June 23 Mrs. John Penny of Winchester has been visiting her daughter, Mr6. C. N Hatfield Miss Ruth Fulghum has gone to Bloomington where ehe will be the guest of Mr. and Mrs. Ed Mink for a few weeks Miss Verbenia Pitts, who has been ill for some time is slowly improving Carson Meek of Centerville, county Sunday school treasurer, gave short talks at the Christian and Methodist churches Sunday morning. Mr. Lindley also gave a short talk at the Christian church. He was boosting for the county Christian church rally to be held at Jackson park the first Sunday in August, and urged Fountain City to have a good delegation at the meeting. Rev. Case, pastor of the Christian church, was put in charge of the 'teen age department of the rally.

Mr. and Mrs. Harry P. Mammcn have as their guest Mrs. Mammen's mother, Mrs. Henry Hughes of Evansville. The Hiawatha Social and Literary society will meet Friday afternoon with Mrs. Martha Reber, 219 North Fifth street. Members of the Jolly Four club were entertained Wednesday afternoon by Mrs. Walter Bennett at her home near Boston in honor of Mrs. Ida Powell, a member of the club, but who will Eoon move to this city. An election of officers was held which resulted as follows: President, Miss Letha Phillips; secretary, Mrs. Walter Bennett; treasurer, Mrs. Claud Ballinger, and corresponding secretary, Mrs. Ida Powell. At 4:30 o'clock a luncheon was served. Next Thursday afternoon the club meets with Mrs. Clai.l Ballinger. The annual picnic of the Queen Esther society of the Grace M. POOR RELIEF COSTS LESS FOR QUARTER

Less suffering among the poor during the past three months than in the same period of any previous year, will enable Township Trustee Edgerton to report a marked decrease in expenditures of the trustee's office. The report is now being prepared although the quarter does not expire until July 1. . "There have been more deaths among the poor than usual but the hospital bills will be much less."

MAY BUY CADILLAC FOR POLICE PATROL

Members of the police board, the board of health and Mayor Robbins, will hold a meeting this evening for the purpose of letting a contract for the chassis of a motor driven car that is to be equipped as a combination ambulance-patrol. It is understood that if a bid is received to furnish the body of this car at a cost of $250 or less the contract for the chassis will go to the Cadillac

the highest chassis bids received. Yesterday the state agent for the Cadillac .company took President Eversman of the police board and Chief Goodwin to Cincinnati, to inspect some chassis. The police department is limited to $2,000 to expend for an ambulance-patrol.
