LIBERTY WOMAN ENDS LIFE WITH STRYCHNINE

j LIBERTY, Ind., June 27T-Mr. Charles Kendall, wcet of town, died :at 7 o'clock last night after taking ' etrychnlne with eulcldal intent. Domestic troubles are said to have been

At noon 'yesterday Mrs. Kendall

. threatened to end her life. Later ehe - went to town and purchased the

; poison. On her return home she went to the field where her husband was working and tcld him she had made

tne purcnase. Later she informed Elm

that she had taken strychnine.

While In the field the poison began ' to act. She was hurried to the house

by Mr. Kendall, who summoned phy- ; sicians. Mrs. Kendall died before medical aid reached her.

A distinctive semi-tailored hat is illustrated, developed in black chip straw. The slightly rolling brim Is partly covered with white grosgrain ribbon, disappearing under the broad nd deep crown. A cluster of roses and carelessly knotted grosgrain ribbon band serve to trim the hat. The arrangement of the ribbon which is neither too near the top nor the bottom, does not accentuate the bigness of the crown, which is one of the distinctive features of the shape.

PRAISES MRS. LEWIS AS WOMAN ORATOR

Esther Griffin White, writing for the Indiana Forum, makes the folowing comment about a former Richmond woman: Mrs. Olive Belden Lewis, of Richmond, who made her first appearance on a suffrage program in Indiana at the suffrage conference last week, is one of the be6t speakers among the younger women of the country. While Mrs. Lewis' parents are now residents of North Dakota, Mrs. Lewis is a native of Northern Indiana and an honor graduate of Indiana university. Mrs. Lewis campaigned in North Dakota for six weeks and is an experienced suffrage speaker.

PUTS ON WEIGHT.

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind., June 27. Walter Armstrong, of Kokomo, will attempt to increase his weight from 106V& pounds to 110 pounds in 24 hours so that he can enlist in the United States army.

BLUE RIBBONERS LOSE IN CONTEST

FOUNTAIN CITY, Ind., June 27. The white ribboners of the local union Christian Endeavor were very pleasantly entertained by the blue ribboners who were defeated in the attendance and membership contest, closed recently, last Friday evening. The members met at the home of Miss Grace Bremnaan and from there went to a woods south of town where a large fire was built and a marshmallow and weenie roast was enjoyed by the large number present Miss Myrtle Skinner has returned home after an extended visit at Ft. Wayne, Middleboro and Portland with friends. Miss Martha Rich entertained Misses Georgia Hatfield and Olive Har rison Sunday Miss Elma Alexander was a guest of Miss Ethel Bennett of Richmond Thursday and Friday of last week Mr. Archie Bogue from Greencastle has been spending his vacation with relatives of this place.

Attorneys for Captain Hans Tausch. er, husband of Madam Gadski, now on trial, indicted for complicity in a plot to blow up the Welland Canal in September, 1914, will plead that the defendant had no intention of committing the specific crime with which he is charged..
