QUESTION
O. E. Dickinson, Richmond. Sir: Kindly advise me as to whose initial the should be engraved on a gift of silver tableware.
0
ANSWER-
Richmond, Ind., June 21, 1916 Dear Madam: Your inquiry regarding the correct engraving for wedding silver has just been received. There is no set rule and authorities differ as to which is correct. It is argued by some that wedding presents are gifts to the bride and not to the groom, but it is the opinion of the majority that the groom's initial should mark the gift, for why should the silver that she will use in common with her husband all her life bear the initial of a name that is no longer hers? In fact, probably many of her guests would not be familiar with her former name. This latter custom prevails in the fashion centers of America and Europe, and has generally been recognized by us as the correct form, except, of course, where ths gift partakes of a strictly personal nature, such as Toilet Articles, Jewel Cases, Photo Frames, etc., when the bride's initial is permissible. Thanking you for this opportunity of serving you, we remain, x Very respectfully yours, 0. E. DICKINSON
LOCAL MEN HEAR STRONG ADDRESS BY UNION HEAD
About a do:en Richmond union men went to Dayton Saturday night and heard the address given by John B. Lennon. treasurer of the A. F. of L. on "Preparedness by the Working j Classes." Mr. Lennon was a member of the Congressional Commission on International Relations. The speaker . was introduced by George Burba, former secretary of state to Governor Cox, and editor of the Dayton Daily News, who is to leave shortly for Mexico to write for several newspapers. Mr. Burba said that he was absolutely through with politics and that speaking from experience, politics will manipulate the workers as long as they delay joining trades unions. Lennon Shows Folly. Mr. Lennon in opening his address stated that it was folly for this country to consider military preparedness as long as the population is unhappy and discontented. ' . "As a member of the Committee on Industrial Relations I found this to be the case," the speaker declared. "Preparedness to be effective must first eliminate the children of the working classes, who are the real fighters, from working in the factories and undermining their physical beings. The workers must have better homes as the congressional investigation has shown that thirty percent of the families are forced to keep boarders and lodgers to meet expenses. "This committee also found that in tLe homes of workers who receive only $10 a week, the death rate of babies is 256 per 1,000 and in homes where the head of the house is making $25 a week, it is only 84 to 1.000 inhibtants. Women Receive Less. "Female government employes arc being paid from fifteen to thirty percent less than males for performing the same work. "Trades unions are the only remedies. 'The stronger the organization, the better wages and of course the better chance of the 'real fighters' to consider military preparedness. "Trades unions should always have the hearty co-operation of the business people as it was found in every instance that where the wages were high, prosperity reigned. "The real cause of the European war was that the workers were beginning to see light and were insisting on better government, and the cry of war in this country at present may lead onto the like conditions. "They lied when they said that the Trades unions will not enlist. When the cause is just history has proved that the members of unions always enlist." 1 7 HOLD CHURCH SOCIAL CHESTER. Ind., June 27. 'It TAKING HER PROFIT. "After he broke the engagement, why did you return bis diamond ring?" "I didn't. Z cave blm a put one instead." AN EASY WAY TO GET FAT AND BE STRONG The trouble with most thin folks who wish to gain weight is that they insist on drugging their stomach or stuffing it with greasy foods; rubbing on useless "flesh creams." or following some foolish, physical culture stunt, while the real cause of thinness goes untouched. You cannot get fat until your digestive tract assimilates the food you eat. There is a preparation known to reliable druggists almost everywhere which seemingly embodies th- missing elements needed by the digestive organs to help them convert food into rich, fat-laden blood. This modern treatment is called Sargol and has been termed the greatest cf fleshbuilders. Sargol aims through regenerative, re-censtructive powers to coax the stomach and intestines to literally 6oak up the fattening .elements of your food and pass them into the blood, where ' ey are carried to the starved, broken-down cells and tissues of your body. You can readily picture what result this amazing transformation should produce as with increased weight the cheeks fill out, hollows about neck, shoulders and bust disappear and from 10 to 20 pounds of solid, healthy flesh is added to the body. Sargol is absolutely harmless, inexpensive, efficient. Clem Thistlethwaite's four stores and other leading druggists of this vicinity have it and will refund your money if you are not satisfied, as per the guarantee found i:: every package. " NOTE Sahgol is recommended only as a" flesh builder and while excellent results in cases or nervous Indigestion, etc., have" been reported care should be taken about using it unless a gain of weight is desired.
