Preble County Prosperity. It becomes commonplace to talk of the prosperity of Preble county. For many years this political unit of Ohio has enjoyed the distinction of being one of the wealthiest political units in Ohio. A news dispatch from Eaton yesterday stated that the personal property value for .taxation this year exceeds last year's figure by $250,000. This is a large sum to add to the county tax
t sheets in one year. It is surprisingly large when j one considers that there is no large city in Preble i county, and that the increase must be traced to I farm and town residents. Eaton alone has rej turned personal property valued at $1,263,900. ;The grand total for the county is $9,378,770. Touching the Button. Life is rapidly being reduced to the simple process of touching the button. Whether one de
sires an automobile or a glass of water, whether he desires to turn on a light or start the wheels of a factory, all he has to do is to touch a button. They are dotted all overthe modern residences and the offices; they are encountered in the stores and shops ; they are seen on the street cars, in the railway trains and at the stations. The most ponderous machinery starts and stops stops at the pushing of a button. The button may be a thousand miles removed; it makes no difference. The wheels respond to the touch of a finger a fairy tale that is before us all the time. The great pipe organs at the churches operate the same way, and the fan that cools us starts or stop3 in response to the commands of the little dark disc somewhere upon the walls. And now comes a new firm a Dayton firm at that and gives the button to the farmer. All he has to do is to touch a button, and his home is lighted, or washing machine -begins to wash or his churn begins to churn. We in the city who have seen the advantages of the button, congratulate our farmer friends that they, too, are to have the blessed privilege of pressing one. The manager of the great establishment sits at his desk, alone in the quiet room where he works out his plans. There is a row of buttons on his desk or just beneath it. He presses one, and a messenger enters, or another, and a stenographer comes, with pad in hand to take the dictations he is about to give. Or, he summons the foreman from a distant workshop to his side, by pressing still another button, or the treasurer of the corporation, or some other officer, through the pressure exerted upon still other buttons. Verily, it is an age of buttons, with the thin wire woven through our daily actions like the webs of spiders' trailing across the meadows. Dayton News.

REPORT GERMANS ACTIVE IN MEXICO
WASHINGTON, June 24. Advices received here from Mexico allege that the German representatives there have encouraged General Carranza and the officers of the de facto government in their opposition to the United States troops remaining in that country. The form of encouragement was said to have been moral, rather than material. The reports declare further that German citizens in Mexico are treated with great consideration, their nron-
erty not being molested. Some Ameri-1
cans have placed their property in the hands of German friends on leaving Mexico. This information was disclosed by a competent authority in connection with information concerning the activity in Mexican affairs of Captain Franz von Rintelen, now under indictment in New York for conspiracy to foment strikes in American munitions
plants and under arrest in England.

for the Whole Family We're friends of the whole family. There's a service we can render every member from father down to little Jimmie. As we all know, father's a particular man. But he's economical. He always wears a suit a couple of seasons because he knows the Dennis cleaners make them look like new. Mother, too, with all her desire to be well dressed, has an eye to economy. And she is both well dressed and economical because her waists, gowns, skirts and dresses are cleaned or dyed by the Dennis cleaners. The children, who are terrors on clothes, cause the folks no trouble. Mother lets the Dennis cleaners take the children's clothes worry off her mind. The ROY W. DENNIS Shop
