The Richmond evenins school can he of much service to machinists and the industry by providing night school courses in machine operating and the general work of the machinist. .Evening school courses in applied electricity also are recommended. For the aid of girls and women employed or who wish to be employed in dressmaking, ladies tailoring-'and similar work the evening school can be of great service by incorporating courses under the direction of competent instructors:'1 The Richmond board of education is. urged to make provision for instruction of boys and girls who expect to go into business as an office worker, salesperson or railroad employe. Instructions concerning a certain line should be definite. For those already employed as traffic men or shipping clerks, special courses in traffic problems are recommended. Pfaieea High School. " Concerning the course of the Richmond high school, heretofore designed chiefly for the benefit of those intending to enter college, the report "says : " "If the Richmond high school had been a distinctively classical institution throughout the years, it would be almost impossible for the school now to become democratic enough to meet the needs of both groups. Fortunately, however, the high school, particularly in the last few years, has seriously attempted to prepare girls and boys for wage earning as well as college. This is indicated, in part, by
the architecture of the building; by the splendid provisions for household arts work, and for commercial and industrial work; and in part, by the evolution" of the school curriculum, and the broadening attitude of the teachers regarding what education is -worth while. - Vocational Basis Approached. "The new high school course of study adopted in May, 1916, places the entire school on a departmental and almost vocational basis. The school, of its own accord and by its own process of evolution, has thus become. In principle what the survey has indicated should occur in best meeting the needs of the youths of Richmond. 1 An ; extension and more liberal - application of the principles to which the school is already committed, will permit the realization of the committee recommendations with but slight adaptation." The report devotes much space to the junior high school, and has many words of praise for it. ;

WILL HELP PEOPLE
"If there is war with Mexico, it would serve some noble purpose we may rest assured of that," Rev. U. S. A! Bridge said today. "Men sin and must .pay for their wrongdoings with their blood. The shedding of blood is the greatest way
of purging sins of man.. If not so:why did Christ shed blood for us? Of course we dread war, but it sometimes is unavoidable." ; ; .The Rev. Mr.' Bridge said that he believed a war would be a blessing for Mexico For nearly 400 years these people have been victims of kings, nobles, money grabbers, land owners, foreign capitalists and educated nobles. The country has been the victim of appalling ignorance. Of course, the pastor explained that war is always to be avoided when
possible but in case the United States takes charge of Mexico and educates its people and puts a stop to the civil strife, then a war shall have served a purpose.
