"Y" ADDS MEMBERS BY NEW CAMPAIGN
"Bring your friend in for a swim" is the invitation extended by the Y. M. C. A. to its members this week. Yesterday several took advantage of the guest week and showed their friends the advantages of the association. This is part of the summer membership .campaign. Several new members have been added to the "Y" since the "get a member" canvass started yesterday. The members responded readily to the request of the membership committee and about half of the association men have signed pledge cards to do all in their powers to get at least one new member.
SOUTH SIDERS MEET
John Bayer will report for the program committee on the dedication services of the Improved building of the South Side Improvement association at the regular meeting tonight. John Niewoehner will try to secure reports from sub-committees which are circulating petitions for road improvements, and if enough signatures have been secured the petitions will be presented to the county commissioners immediately. Dolph's purchase of the C. B. and C. traction line will likely bring up some discussion of the $100,000 subsidy for the proposed Hamilton and Richmond interurban line.

Arlie Mucks, the Western athlete, in a trial throw with the discus sent it out ten feet beyond the world's record. When Mucks gets used to the 8 feet 2 inch circle there is no telling how far he will send it. Most of his throws have been made from the seven foot ring and he does not yet get the full advantage of the extra 14 inches in the official size circle.
MILITIA ASSEMBLING
FARM INGHAM, Ma June 20 The vanguard of the Massachusetts militia commenced early tjday to pour intj camp here. It was expected that the Fifth, Eighth and Ninth regiments would sleep tonight on the fields of the muster camp under canvas. Hundreds of young men, fired with the desire to see active service, presented themselves as recruits at armories and recruiting stations throughout the state.

MEN OF ILLINOIS RUSH TO COLORS
CHICAGO, June 20. Recruiting officers of the Illinois National Guard have been swamped with applicants who want to go to Mexico since there appears to be a chance for active service. Yesterday's enlistments in the guard totaled 1,354, and there were over 400 rejections. Even larger numbers are expected to follow during the rest of the week.

Michael J. Mulqueen, retiring president of the New York Catholic club, has been made a Knight of the Order of Saint Gregory by Pope Benedict. Cardinal Farley requested the Pontiff to confer this high dignity on Mr. Mulqueen because of his splendid services the last five years as president of the Catholic club. During the administration of Mr. Mulqueen more than $150,000 was turned into the club treasury. A second mortgage of $50,000 was paid off, the first mortgage of $35,000 met, and a deficit of $20,000 in 1911 has been turned into a surplus of $19,000 In 1916. Besides these achievements $20,000 was spent for club improvements.
