American Invention Factor in the War
RATTLESNAKE
An automatic machine gun that weighs but a trifle more than the rifles I carried by our soldiers in the Spanish-American War, is being used with great j
success in the European war. The gun Is the invention of a retired American army officer. The gun was first used by the Belgians in their resistance to the German advance through their country. It is said that the gun delayed the advance of the Germans for two months, when it was thought they would be able to force a passage through in two weeks. The Germans named the gun the "Belgian rattlesnake." The magazine Is a sprocket-like wheel, holding forty-seven shells. It can tnrow these shells at a maximum of 600 shots a minute, or ten shots every cecond. The gun has been adopted bv Enaland and Franc, and in th itt.r
country more of these guns are being amount of machine gun equipment in Government.
Man's Own Poison Causes Rheumatism Says London Dr. Ridicules Idea of Uric Acid and Meat Diet as Causes for Arthritis Smashes Many Foolish Fallacies.
"Man poisons himself by the absorption of certain substances that should be eliminated this is the cause of so much rheumatism according to Dr. Lane, a London physician'" So said W. A. Varney. He continued: VARNEY. "Many pet theories about rheumatism of the joints .and I mean chronic arthritis, have been smashed during the past few years. The old idea of meat causing rbeumaUsm is ridiculous think of the large number of vegetal ians that suffer rheumatism these people never eat meat. I know quite a number that suffered from arthritis and had been on a meat free diet for & long time so much so that they became weak and did not have sufficient strength to fight the disease, just as soon as they began to eat meat once a day they began to improve, and with the help of Var-ne-sis were well in a short time." The old idea of uric acid has been exploded as, uric acid is perfectly nor mal to every numan being it is tne

There are hundreds of preparations on the market but I do not remember of ever seeing anything about them taking care of rheumatism of the joints after the patient has had the disease a few years. Var-ne-sis is the one remedy that most all rheumatics take after they try about everything else. No claim is made that a bottle or two will cure the disease, but it removes every particle of stiffness, every twinge of pain if you keep at it. I know what Var-ne-sis has armm. plished where the joints were swollen from a chalky deposit I know what Var-ne-sis has accomplished for dry joints so that they creaked when goius up or aown stairs. I know what Var-ne-sis has accomplished for actual cripples that were confined to wheel chairs. It has made every one of these people well and should do the same for you. Send to W. A. Varney, Lynn, Mass., for the Journal for Rheumatics. It's free. I want every rheumatic in this city lu go juimeuiaieiy io rnistlethwaite s drug store and all reliable druggists and get Ver-ne-sis.
