Herbert Hart, known at Purdue unt versity as H. L. Hart, but in Richmond as Just plain "Blondey," "Herb" oi "Red." has been elected to captain the 1916-17 University of Purdue basketball team. The honor was bestowed upon Hart last evening when the eight varsity letter men met to elect a leader, for the Purdue five. Hart is - a Bophmore at Purdue. He was a star guard of the 1915-16 team. After breaking even in the single events and with an edge in the incompleted doubles the Earlham tennis team was obliged to call off the final and deciding event of the Butler-Earlham net duels yesterday afternoon. The Quakers wanted to catch a train' for home. In the singles Ted Lanlng, Earlham, defeated Kramer, 6-1, 4-6, 6-3. Woods, Butler, defeated Mclllvaine, 6-8, 6-2, 6-3. . At time the doubles event was called the Quakers: had won the first
round and were tied in the second set

The Y. M. C. A. Industrial Bowling league, to roll at the association alleys this summer, has been launched. Membership probably will include representative teams the following concerns: Indianapolis Glove company, Westcott Motor, American Seeding (two teams), Swayne-Robinson (two teams), Natcps and Richmond high school. Complete organization of the new circuit will be effected next week. The league probably will include ten clubs. As it now stands nine teams are entered in the circuit lists. Several other teams are considering applications. "Y" alley manager Tim Sprcuse this morning announced that opening games would be played as soon as possible probably next week. A league schedule will be drafted as soon as league membership is definitely determined. Games will be rolled five nights each week. All games will be rolled at the Y. M. C. A. alleys.

In the combination track, field and baseball meet staged on Reid field yesterday afternoon between the Danville Normal and Earlham athletes, the local collegians developed more speed and endurance and won by the figures, 19 to 8. In the first inning seven of the nine Danville batters, singled and scored. Earlham, however, showed ability to come back, as the final score indicates.'
