RICHMOND PERSONS TO WEAR RIBBONS AT STATE SESSION
St. Joseph's Benevolence society Mil not be officially represented at the state meeting of the Staatts ver Band which is to be held in Indianapolis next Sunday, however, several "members of the society will attend the meeting of the Associated German 'Catholic societies. Those who attend from here will be identified by small ribbons bearing these words: "St. Andrew's Church Pdchmond, Ind." The anniversary meetings of the Benevolence society yesterday were well attended. About 240 members of the society and forty members of the Knights of St. John attended the meetings in a body. At the afternoon
vespers service, Father Brockman delivered a sermon on "Keep Holy God's Name." : . A short parade was made before the men entered the vespers service. At the close of the service a collection of $25 was taken which will go to assist in the work of the society.
INDIANA TAKES LEAD

j about five hundred people.

AST WEALTH UNLOCKED BY SANITARY CONQUEST OF PANAMA

The United States army at Panama has shown Jhe way for the ear.itary conquest of the tropics and the unlocking of tremendous stores of natural riches, according to Sur?eon General William C Gorgas. he remaining problem for the utilisation of this wealth, he says, has to do with its fair distribution after it las been produced, i "We have successfully combatted every tropical disease," he says, "and, have shown that the man from the temperate zone can 1 live and work near the equator with a fair degree of iomfort and entire safety, if he follows reasonable precautions. "Our success is certain to turn attention to the tremendous agricultural possibilities of certain regions that have heretofore had scanty development, owing to the white man's fear of climatic diseases. Two tropical valleys, those of 'Ji. Amazon and the Congo, are capable of producing
more foodstuffs than is now produced in the entire world. "While modern sanitation can solve the question of labor for the development of the tropics, I doubt if such enterprise would be worth while under prevailing systems of land ownership. The worker and the consumer would benefit little, if any,, by abundant production. The land owner would get the lion's share. "Low waees in themselvo rrufn

PAINTERS' UNION MAKES AGREEMENT WITH CARPENTERS
Delegates from the Carpenters union met with the Painters' union Friday and decided upon an offensive and defensive alliance. Such an alliance has already been endorsed by both locals and by the national officers of the Painters' union. It has been virtually endorsed by national officers of the Carpenters' union and the direct ratification is almost certain, C. A. Griffy, president of the Carpenters' local, said. It will go into effect May 15. After this date, no union carpenter will work oh a building unless it is to be painted by union painters and no union painter will paint a building which has not been constructed by union carpenters. Under the new agreement, a contract cannot be split up. That is, a general contractor cannot re-let contracts. Master painters will only contract with the owner or architect, and so it will be with the carpenters. ' Mr. Griffy said that a similar alliance probably would soon be made between the Carpenters' and Bricklayers unions.

No Appetite Little Sleep. Symptoms of a Run-down Condition, We Have a Remedy. We ask every weak, run-down person in Richmond to try our Vinol,
with the understanding that their money will be returned if it does not re-establish their health. Letters like the following give confidence: "I am in the millinery business and on my feet most of the time. I got so weak and run-down that I lost my appetite and was unable to sleep, had a severe chronic cold and lost my color. I learned about Vinol through a friend, and within three, weeks after taking it I noticed an improvement, and soon gained in weight, health and strength. I am recommending Vinol to my friends and they also speak highly of it." Catherine Hoar, West Chester, N. Y, In hundreds of cases where old-fashioned cod liver oil and emulsions have failed to restore strength and health, Vinol has succeeded, because while it contains all the curatives they do, its good work is not retarded by useless grease and oil. Clem Thistlethwaite, druggist, Richmond, Ind. Adv.
