EAST MEETS The government Indian land car. sent out by business men of McAlester, Okla., to .advertise tibe coming sale of a million acres of Choctaw and Chickasaw Indian lands in southeastern Oklahoma, is in Dayton. On Monday and Tuesday, May 22 and 23. the Indianapolis conference of the Olive Branch Synod will hold its sessions in the church. This conference will begin with a Men's banquet in the church parlors at 6:45 Monday evening. Ministers and laymen of the three local churches and the ministers and laymen coming to Httend the conference will be invited. There will be sessions of the confer ence all day Tuesday, closing with a public service in the evening. PATRIOTISM BURNS IN YOUNG HEARTS "Young men of America are as patriotic today as were the young men of the early 60's." said John Markley. adjutant of the local post G. A. R. "I believe that if. war were declared as the result of secession, or an invasion of the United States, the young men would rally to the flag with greater enthusiasm than they did during the Civil war." A fight to eliminate the 'hyphen'' in American school life was inaugurated in Chicago today by the Catholic parochial school board. At a meeting of the board, It was voted to establish the English unified system in 240 parochial schools next season, involving a complete change of text-books and methods of teaching. This will affect 2,500 teachers, and 113,000 pupils in the Chicago diocese alone. ' GENERAL OBREGON LEAVES FOR CAPITAL EL PASO, May 12. With the future relations of the United States and Mexico definitely placed in the hands of Washington and Mexico City diplomats, General Obregon today departed from Juarez on the special train that brought him here to confer with General Scott. The general's train left in the early morning very quietly and with none of the display and hurrah that marked his arrival. HAROLD PLANS FOURTH "If tbe centennial people do not plan anything in the way of a celebration for this year, the Old Trails association will probably give some kind of a celebration on the Fourth of July" said Dr. L S. Harold today. He said that a meeting will probably be held some time next week to talk over and decide what the association will do. At this meeting, plans will also be discussed for reviving the township organization of the association. NOHR BASES HOPES ON TRIO OF STARS Richmond's hopes for "firsts" in the tri-state at Miami university tomorrow afternoon rest with Kenneth Davis, high jumper; Harold Brown, weight man, and Tal Jessup, hurdler. It is conceded that this trio represents Richmond's chance to cop out initial honors. Davis, with ability to make 5 feet seven in the high jump, is certain to place. Tal Jessup, considered one of the best high school hurdlers in state high circles, should take at least one first. Brown's strong point Is the shot put. Team and rooters leave tomorrow morning at 8:30 o'clock.

COUNTER DRIVE FAILS AT VERDUN PARIS, May 12 German troops lastnight renewed their attacks west of the Meuse river in efforts to recapture positions taken by the French at Dead Man's Hill on May 10, but the assault failed, the war office announced today. The Teutons were unable to dislodge the French. The official communique also states that the French positions at Avocourt wood were bombarded violently by the German artillery and that there was great artillery activity in the Woevre region. ... EAST4 MAIN FRIENDS ENTER FEDERATION East Main Street Friends church will affiliate with the Richmond Federation of Churches. This was decided at the regular monthly meeting last night. A nominating committee was appointed with power to elect two members of the congregation to act with Rev. Milo S. Hinckle as delegates in the council of the federation. ART EXHIBIT OPENS Annual arts and crafts exhibits of the Richmond public schools will open at tbe high school art gallery May IS, and will continue till May 26, it was announced today. Handiwork of the high school, Garfield and grade school students and pupils will be exhibited. Arrangements for the exhibit are in the hands of Miss Maude Barger, of the high school and Miss Sarah WilliamB, of the grade schools. FILE DIVORCE SUIT Divorce complaint was filed today by Mary Elma Clark against Fred Clark, an employe of the Richmond Chair company. Cruel and. inhuman treatment is alleged in the complaint. DR. Milo S. Hinckle will preach a special Mothers' Day sermon at the morning services of the East Main Street Friends church Sunday morning. LOST DEEO CAUSES SUIT. ANDERSON, Ind., May 12. The losing of a deed several years ago has made it necessary for the city school board to bring suit against John W.
