Rubin states that he did not Intend to be dishonest, having .intended all the time to make a settlement with his local creditors. The first month he was engaged in business here as a woman's tailor, Rubin states, he did not earn one dollar. The following month he sold a suit of clothing to his prospective father-in-law, a man named Haymann, living in Indianapolis, who is reputed to be wealthy. "Then my engagement with - Miss Haymann was broken, because I was poor, and Haymann refused to pay for the suit because, he said, it. did not fit him, Rubin said today. "When I failed to get this money I left Indianapolis ..for New York and arrived there with three cents in my pocket. I was working as a night cashier in one of my brother-in-law's restaurants when placed under arrest." Rubin hopes .to escape prosecution after he has made a settlement with his creditors.
