GARFIELD PLAYERS PRAISE Kl FIRST COVERT
Nothing but words of praise were heard for the Garfield orchestra from the large audience that attended its concert last evening in the auditorium cf the high school. This was the first number of the musical festival, m C.oncert by the high school orchestra will be given tonight and the festival will close tomorrow evening with a concert by the Richmond Symphony orchestra. The Garfield orchestra is directed by Miss Elizabeth Sands, who at all times during the concert last night had the sixty youthful players under perfect control. The vocal solo by Kenneth Dollins was especially enjoyed by the audience. His voice is exceptionally good and well rounded for one so young. Applause was heavy for Mary Jones MISSIONARY WANTS TO START HOSPITAL FAR BACK IN ARABIA Dr. Paul Harrison, a medical missionary on the island of Baherein, in the Persian Gulf, off the coast of Arabia, was in Richmond a short time yesterday to arrange to deliver two addresses at Earlham college Sunday. He will speak in the college chapel Sunday morning and before the members of the college Y. M. C. A. in the evening. Dr. Harrison wants to establish an American hospital in the interior of Arabia, a place where only a few white men have ever been, and he is now in this country raising funds for the hospital. Dr. Harrison is greatly disappointed over the failure of the British campaign in Mesopotamia, along the valley of the river Tigris. He says if the British are eventually successful in defeating the Turks in Mesopotamia the work of the missionaries in western Asia will be greatly facilitated. He will relate some of his war experiences in his addresses at the college Sunday. GOME FROM DAYTON IN ABOUT AN HOUR "Be reasonable," said a member of the Commercial club party who returned from Dayton last evening with Joseph H. Mills In his large touring car. Several of the members of the committee had engagements in Richmond last evening and when they left Dayton it looked as if they would have to postpone them but Mill's chauffeur knew otherwise. The trip from Dayton by way of Campbellstown was made in exactly one hour and fifteen minutes. SWIM AFTER WORK NEW "Y" SLOGAN Drop in and swim after work." will be the slogan at the Y. M. C. A. for the summer starting next Monday. Special summer rates have been offered and a summer membership campaign is now under way. Senior and intermediate membership for a period of four months, May 15 to September 15. may be had for $2.75. Month rates are in proportion. Junior and junior prep membership for the same period will come at $1.50 with monthly rates in proportion. Swimming classes will be given throughout the summer and the gymnasium will be open for those who want to use it. Shower baths may be had at any time during the day. TYPIST SETS RECORD The title of champion "typewritress" of the Richmond high school commercial department is held by Miss Bessie Cruse, who has a record of 48.4 words per minute. The title was won in a recent competition -with other commercial students. Runner-up honor is held by Miss Caroline Smith, who clicked up 45.9 for an average sixty second.1' A young man, Rhea Swisher, had to be content with third honors. Swisher's mark was 44.3. One of the best industrial schools on the continent is at Toronto, where the city has expended more than $2,000,000 in its equipment.

S. printing department, perhaps the only self-supporting division of the high school, broke all records for speedy delivery of school printing work yesterday and today, when 2,000 eight-page programs for the high school concert were issued within a few hours after the work was turned into Manager Towle's office. The street will only be widened between South Fifth and Eighth streets. South G street is the site selected for the new south end bridge. The widening of the street will necessitate the removal of a residence at South Sixth and G streets and several barns and out buildings. The board received a petition for a cement roadway in the alley between North Tenth and Eleventh streets, from C to D streets. HUNTS REVOLVER. DOCTORS USING AMOLOX WITH GREAT SUCCESS This remarkable letter, coming from a prominent physician engaged in active practice for over 23 years, proves the merit of this wonderful new Remedy. I have used Amolox in four different cases with excellent results. All showed marked improvement from the start. Two apparently are cured, the skin being free from scales and redness, and perfectly normal. I consider Amolox a Remedy of rare merit. I know of nothing in the mod ern text-books that equals it in thera peutic value. H. R. Hills. M. D. Youngstown, O. Pimples on the face, Blackheads, Acne and all minor skin troubles yield quickly to the use of the Amolox Ointment. Sufferers of Eczema, Psoriasis, Tetter, Salt Rheum and bad chronic cases of skin diseases lasting for years, should use both the OinYment and Solution-to effect a cure. Trial size, 50c.
