KEflu'EPOlIL ADVISES MiU PARK ALONG NEW MAIN STREET BRIDGE

. The following has been . submitted by B. A. Kennepohl: . v , The Main Street bridge question Is now an important matter before the taxpayers solve, and as the engineer Is working on the plans it seems to me suggestions ought to be made by the citizens, for that is the way to get different ideas. Taking a birds-eye view of the situation and viewing conditions I want to give my views on the bridge question. Since the city has taken over the Light, Heat and Power plant and the grounds in the bottom along the river, there Is room to do some beautifying. Now my suggestion is this: Build the necessary arch or double arch for the waterway, another arch for the railroad switch to the gas plant, say, one hundred feet long or longer; i north and isouth 3ea?e ihat to the engineer and further dexejop-! ments. ; Then. fin to, not with trash, but with solid,; filling. Suppose the arcnes were m now, and all the excavation of North Fifth; street which is now. under construction, and Richmond avenue would-Te-'tak'ehingre', and from all other im-provementS'on-venient, it would not take long to have a; Street instead of a bridge to contend with, and the driveway could be given' the appearance of a park driveway instead of a bridge. It could certainly be made a great improvement over the Doran bridge. The entire width of Main street is seventy feet. Make the street the same width across there, and there will be a strip of ground on both sides of the street to beautify park-like," and IS BJ ' S Good, Belter, If you pay mere than . $15.00 on Credit . you -are charged tor ; the credit.', .. , ,- '

tt seems to me would not be one-third

the cost of the plans so far proposed. I do not think; the present bridge is in the way of building those arches. so the bridge could be left until the fill is made, and the filling probably could be done from the bridge. Then the city, in time, could convert that river ground Into a park and give West Richmond that long wished for park. which could be made "a little beauty" along the river front. - Now, how does that strike the com mittee of one hundred or any other citizen?
