VProbably Tnoro Wayne county farmers will buy s&ed corn this year than in any: previous year. This was a statement made yesterday by Omer G. Whelan. . Mr. Whelan explained that the farm I era were afraid of their corn this Tear because it had been attacked by sort of a dry rot while in the cribs during the winter. Usually the fanners go to the cribs and pick out seed corn, in the "spring. This year, many of them are buying foreign seed. Because of the Irregular summer last year and because of the corn getting caught by an early frost before it is mature, it is the general belief of farmers that much of the corn will not germinate and so they are running no chances. - "A county agent is much in need in this county," Mr. Whelan said. "In I -cases like this spring he would save the county bis - salary in preventing corn from being planted that will never germinate. The trouble with farmers here and everywhere is that they will not spend a dollar in order to make several."
