More work for the R. H. S. C. A. A. Tho athletic"; world at Richsaond bih' school Is "In trouble. : Not only fa ball-c' the aquad Ineligible to participate in -ack worky but the prospects for t" i state 1917 basketball team are beginning . to dim now Chat It becomes certain that unless certain athletically but not "studentlcally" Inclined' students - make a strong finish. In their term's c work, half the athletic material at the R. H. 6. wffl be Ineligible for the 1915-1S at-Jetie season. Among otter, things the L H. S. A. A. '(stats athletic aasociatica) demands of Its members that no athlete snail enter state athletic contests unless he has a passing grade la at least 15 hours work. -Also, that the student meet the same requirement the previous term. , . This means that : R.' H. S.' athletes, who hope to make the state basketball team next season will 1 e entirely out of the running unless : they get busy this term and meet requirements. . Iu the crisis the "Come-back"' association has taken the initiative in averaging the pending calamity. EFFORTS TO BOOK NEW CASTLE MEET FNO WITH FAILURE N'cw. Castle, apparently, is seeking eo track meet with the R. H. S. . v Efforts to bring New Castle high here for a dual track and field meet have failed .signally and as, a consequence R. H. S. will be without a meet this coming Saturday.. .-Y- . It was the original intention to bring liberty high here for the May 6 date. L. H. S. did not feel it bad the material to compete in such a meet and , declined the date.,' Liberty, with an experienced team downed the, Richmond ypungsters last year. For a time it seemed New Castle would be secured for, the date. N. H. S., too it seems, does not specialize in track and therefore graciously declined the offer of R. H. S. An attempt to bring Stivers, of Dayton, to Richmend, Saturday, failed because of conflicting dates. Y Next date pf the R. H. S. is the Ti l-State -contests at Miami university, M;y,13. . , f , ,... .They tell this one on Freddua Pence. F. P.,.of course, is" the portly goal tend of the erstwhile Muncie polo combine and who played .with the .Richr mond five " in the Racine series at Racine last week, v - Y Pence, be it understood is the manager and one of the backers of the Marion baseball . club . which Sunday afternoon showed" the "way to the'Richmondltes, in a ten inning 3-2 affair at Marion. . ' . . , But coming back to the story; It" all -happened In the'Racine-Richi mond polo game Saturday night. The close of regulation time had seen the score knotted at four all. The teams had battled for another extra fifteen minute session . and' still . the end wasnt. In sight by any means, according to Pence. Y" : Y It seems that Freddus Pence had made big plans Tor a "hdme-comlng" In Marion Sunday afternoon; and, with progress of extra time, Ftfeddus was beginning . to figure It that, if neither team scored a winning! goal very soon, he (Pence) Vas going to miss his train for home and the grand opening of the Marion club season. .. After twenty . minuses of extra sessioning and with still no winning goal in sight, Frederick J. Pence was rapid ly becoming exasperated. He even threatened to turn traitor and overlook one of the numerous drives belts directed his way by. the Racine offensive. Twenty-five minutes had elapsed r.nd Freddie was becoming frantic. Appeals to the Quaker rushers "to do WEATHER PREVENTS OPENING OF LEAGUE Altogether the opening of the Commercial wasn't a bit auspicious. Despite the fact that Omer Todd and his Pennsycites were on the grounds early and that Ollie Otten, Jim Harrington and the rest of, the Kaysees were represented in person to the full club membership, there, was absolutely nothing stirring in the way of national pastiming. Just a few minutes before tae teams were to take the field, trouble in the shape of a gentle spring vrain, set in and l.s Tim Cronin, sagely remarked, "good-night ball game." ' The weather permitting the postponed 'game will be played this 'evening- .
