Pat Moran of the Phillies, doea not believe in spending much money to secure players players for his organization.. When he took holdof the. Phillies-a year ago he purchased but three players, McQuillen, Adams and ' Goode, for each of whom he paid only the waiver price. He, won the Na- ' tiohal league nennant with these three men and the old members of the ' team. He did not draft a man at the end of the season, and secured the right to' sign Cocper, an outfielder, last week for nothing. eH picked up both Bender and Chalmers when they were free agents. He traded Dooin to Cincinnati for Niehoff, and let Lobert go to the Giaiits in exchange for Demaree. Stock, and Adams. He obtained Whitted and Dugey from , the Braves In. exchange for Sherwood Magee. The -champion Phillies were built up at a cost of about $5,000 for players' releases.
