"THE DAY OF
There are no records of events of this day. Jesus spent It in retirement, almost certainly In the home of his friends at Bethany. We conelude he was there, because the evening before; Simon the leper gave a supper in his honor, ard Lazarus whom he had raised from the dead with his sister Mary and Martha were present; Mary is the woman who anointed the Savious And the day following, Jesus weary and tired from the overtaxing his human strength, retired at the home of his friend for rest And Judas, still burning with the stinging rebuke of the Master he received at the supper, is trying to "drive a hard bargain" for the betrayal of the Master he is ready to betray his Master If he can get the money for it. He has a man, a divine man, to sell, and he hucksters for his price. What will ye give? Judas sought a bribe but finally agreed to take thirty pieces of silver' The ordinary price of a slave, being about fifteen dollars The sum appears tifling for the treason, if we estimate it by the dreadful consequences which follow, but after all, the whole service that Judas did was to inform the foes of Jesus, where he might be found. Their method was to take him secretly, charge him with some great crime, and thus gain the multitude against him; secure false witnesses, have him condemned, hurry him to the cross, have it all over for fear of the uprising of the people. Rev. J. P. Chamnes.
