Members of the -board of police commlaaionera. will meet tonight and receive a petition, signed by representatives of the 810 members of the Federated Women's clubs, urging the appointment of a woman as a member of the police department. This petition was submitted to Chief Goodwin today for presentation to the board. The commissioners were to have held a meeting last night but the meeting was postponed until tonight because one of the members could not attend.

The club women's petition reads: - On behalf of the Federated Women's
clubs of Richmond, we, the under-, signed, present the following -resolu-i tions: - - - - , Whereas: The attention of the general public has, through the columns of the newspapers recently been called to existing conditions, which threaten the moral welfare of the young girls of Richmond, Ind., and, Whereas: Women and girls are in any city sometimes detained for minor or major offenses, may be and are arrested, searched and must appear in city court, and. -. -Whereas: According to Burns Indiana statutes, Stat 8796 (3599) now in force, "the board of public safety" of every city, or if there be no such board then the mayor may appoint a police matron with such assistants as may be necessary," and, Whereas: Other cities in Indiana have reported success in their experiences with a woman member of the police department, and, Women Take Vote. Whereas: A mass meeting of the Richmond Federation of clubs, which
was recently held for the definite purpose of obtaining information, as to success in other cities, and Richmond's needs, along this line, resulted in a unanimous vote for a police matron for Richmond, and. Whereas: The 810 women of the Richmond 'Federation of clubs confidently believe it is only necessary to call the attention of the honorable i body to Richmond's needs along this line, and to express their wishes. , Therefore, be it resolved: That the women of said Richmond Federation of Clubs do, at this time, most respectfully and earnestly ask your honorable body for a police matron in Richmond, as soon as a suitable woman, filling all the requirements of such office (see Indiana statute 8796) may be found, and that you kindly allow no obstacle to prevent such appointment. of the $20,000 armory, it is probable that the Commercial club and interested citizens will arrange a final ef
fort to secure recruits and bring the membership up to the required standard. The club named a committee a few weeks ago to co-operate with officers of the company, who accomplished. The announcement Friday by Colonel Hubler, who declared his intention of having the company mustered out at its meeting next Tuesday night, may serve to inspire citizens to action and instill a greater degree of patriotism than has existed here.
There will be a special meeting of Hagerstown lodge of Masons on Wednesday evening of next week, at which time some interesting lectures on Masonry by prominent Masonic authorities will be read and discussed. A good attendance Is desired. . . . The Hagerstown Commercial club will meet Monday evening for the purpose of discussing the subject of oiling the streets.. . . .The Junior class and the faculty of the Hagerstown school gave a reception to the Senior class at Light Croft, the suburban home of C. N. Teetor, last Saturday evening. The house was decorated with ferns and palms and the class colors, purple and gold.

, Mr. Harlow Haas, a student at Wit-, tenburg, will come home Thursday to remain until after Easter, the guest of his parents, Mr. and Mrs. E. M. Haas. Mrs. Clyde Miller entertained the members of a thimble club yesterday afternoon. Mrs. Kepler was a guest. Luncheon was served after the usual needlework.
