"Every Richmond young man should spend, his vacation at Fort Benjamin Harrison this summer taking the short military training course," Lieutenant Coppock said yesterday while Jjere. "Such vacations are inexpensive and of great physical benefit. The average young man will gain fire pounds during the month's training. There is no more danger of being called out for service from, the training camp than there is from the streets of from work. No enlistments are necessary. "The purpose of the camp is to instruct a number of young men in the proper use of arms, so that they will be ready to do duty for their country when called upon to do' so," Bald the lieutenant "Unless a man has had some train Ing he can not be of immediate eer vice in times of danger, when his country calls him. TEACHERS ARRANGE SOCIAL FOR PUPILS The reception given by the. teachers of Franklin township schools in honor of the eighth year class was successful In every detail. The reception was held Wednesday in the Whiter school ind wis arranged by Miss Mabel Sourbeer, Miss Helen Eachus and Francis Anderson, teachers. Gladys Anderson was on the program with a song. A playlet by the Bethel school was one of the features of the program. Garfield Notes A letter was sent to each of the patrons Thursday evening asking whether they wanted the school hours changed or not. The vote stood 280 for it. 106 opposed and 37 indifferent. The council voted that the Garfield girls have three events t in the field meet. There is to be an entertainment in the high school auditorium April 28 for all pupils and parents. A charge of fifteen cents will be made. The plan for a school saving bank will be put in the teachers' hands. The girls will not pay athletics dues this spring. . Chapel was held Friday morning at which Rev. E. E. Davis of the Second Presbyterian church, gave an address on the "Great Ride to Save Oregon."
