WHEAT PRICE HIGH AS MARKET OPENS

CHICAGO, March 31.-rThe wheat market was strong at the start today and prices were to 4e higher. Profit taking was on after the initial rush, and the market reacted sharply. Crop reports continued to be unfavorable, though a few reports showing improvements have come from Illinois. Corn was firm with opening prices hc higher. Buying in the corn pit was Induced by the upturn In wheat but later eased off when wheat prices dropped. Oats were Yc to c lower caused by selling by commission men. Provisions were weak and lower. With the exception of corn, hich rioted at advances of Hc to Mc, the entire speculative list ruled lower. By taking oX wheat by foreigners In all position in the United States and Canada was estimated at one to two million bushels.

Deputy Sheriff Taggart. who

been working for Sheriff Steen since the resignation of Oscar Mashmeyer Feb. 1, made his first arrest today. Jake Chapman, an employe of the American Seeding Machine company, was Taggart's victim. He is charged with failure to support his wife. He formerly lived at Cambridge City but is now living in Richmond.

Holland, which now -threatens to plunge into the maelstrom of the war, has about 300.000 men under arms, of which 90,000 are in the field army.

LETS ROAD CONTRACT

County commissioners will let contract Monday for driving piling in the roads on the Caleb Harvey farm in Center township and on the Kerlin farm in Washington township. The rains and thaws of early spring hare made the roads practically impassible. The work of driving the piling waa formerly done by'jall labor under the direction of road superintednent Jones, but the commissioners have found that this is not satisfactory. ?
