WHEAT PRICE HIGH AS MARKET OPENS

CHICAGO, March 31. The wheat market was strong at the start today and prices were YuC to ic higher. Profit taking waa on after the initial rush, and the market reacted sharply. Crop reports continued to be unfavorable, though, a few reports showing improvements have come from Illinois. Corn was firm with opening prices yo. higher. Buying in the corn pit was induced by .the upturn In wheat but later eased off when wheat prices dropped. Oats were c to Uc lower caused by selling by commission men. Provisions were weak and lower. With the exception of corn, which closed at 'advances of . c to c, .the entire speculative list ruled lower. By taking of wheat by foreigners in all position in the United States and Canada was estimated at one to two million bushels.

MAKES FIRST ARREST.

Deputy Sheriff Taggart, who has been working for Sheriff Steen since the resignation .of Oscar Mashmeyer Feb. 1, made his first arrest today. Jake Chapman, an employe of the American Seeding Machine company, was Taggart's victim. He is charged with failure to support his wife. He formerly lived at Cambridge City but is now living in Richmond. . .

Holland, which now threatens to plunge into the maelstrom of the war, has about 300.000 men under arms, of which 90,000 are in the field army.

County commissioners will let contract Monday for driving piling in tb roads on the Caleb Harvey farm In Center township and on the Kn farm in Washington township. The rains and thaws of early spring have made the roads practically impassible. .
