Not content with breaking all Exposition re:ords by remaining an entire yenr, Ran Diego's International enterprise has started on i,s second year, with March IS as Dedication Day. In the face of the world war, and the Mexican complications, the United States government is particifiating in the San Diego Rxposition n far greater degTe than ever in ny International Exposition. A Thousand marines, a battalion of in

fantry, a troop of ca-alry, three bands, 18,000 square feet of display, requiring three complete buildings, and the presence of the Pacific fleet in the bay below the Exposition grounds, constitute the government's recognition. The 1916 visitor can find in this charming wonderland that did not lose by comparison with San Francisco's captivating Exposition of

and given a new name, 'Panama California International Exposition." One of the most interesting innovations of the Exposition will be the attention given to the automobile. A motor demonstration field has been built where every make of American automobile will be given an opportunity to demonstrate efficiency. The Canadian exhibit, considered athe San Francisco Exposition the most wonderful display ever asi sembled by any nation, is now at the San Diego Exposition it. a building friven over entirely to its use. TRIBUTE IS PAID TO MISS CROPSEY

Thfl following has been submitted by the Teachers Federation: Mina Nebraska Cropsey, -who did Wednesday, March 9, at her home in Pittsburg, was a true and faithful servant of the people of Indianapolis in one of the most important' departments of human lif, namely education. Her work in the public schools can not bp too highly praised. The great influence that she exerted is best, known to those who were associated with her in her life work, but it ought to be known to all. As teacher, superintendent of primary instruction, assistant superintendent of Fchools, she played a conspicuous part in the development of our educational system. Sho was always true to her work, and loyal to the highest

was a woman of tine character every tnjs week.... Miss Mary

one Knows; mat sne was a woman of force her success abundantly proves. Mit'S Cropsey was in the truest sense a progressive, though not a revolutionist. Her own schooling, and her wide reading, as well as her experience in teaching others, had taught her that real progress is the result of evolution, rather than of Hidden changes, and that whenever tin advanced position is taken it must, as they are now saying in Europe, be "organized" before there in another forward movement. Her work thus had a permanence which It could not otherwise have had. It has endured. Indianapolis and its schools owe much to this woman, who was content to work quietly, and who was no advertiser or faddist. As long as the best thing was done she cared nothing about who got the credit for it. There is a general belief that at least some of the credit that has gone to others rightfully belongs to her. But it is enough to say that she did her work well, and that through it she influenced a whole generation of Indianapolls people. To be able to feel thus must be one of the greatest compensations of the teacher's life. There are thousands of men end women in this city today who got their start in right thinking either directly through the teaching of .Miss Cropsey, or as Hie result of the work that she did for the schools as administrator.

And these, as weil as the city and ! the schools, will freely and gladly ! acknowledge their obligations to her.: To mam of them her death will be ai personal bereavement. The character-; cf the life of a community depends
