Who Started the Fire? Whenever a fire has destroyed hundreds or thousands of dollars worth of property, the first question asked is: "Who started the blaze?" Often the origin is traced back to a preventable cause ; often ordinary precautions were neglected ; often a child playing with fire caused the damage. Nashville, Tenn., was visited by a fire last Wednesday that entailed a loss of $1,500,000. This, of course, does not include the indirect damage of inconvenience, discomfiture , and interrupted savings, which never can be estimated. A ball of yarn, lighted and thrown into dry grass by a boy started this conflagration. His act made 3,000 persons homeless. The Nashville fire demonstrates that the agitation carried on in Indiana by the fire marshal's Office is necessary. The public needs constant warning against the danger of the fire peril. Children must be taught by parents and teachers that danger lurks in matches and bonfires.
Black and White. The annual report of the Silk Association of America says there will be very little but black and white silk produced in this country during the coming year. Colored silk fabrics will be very limited. Of course, the cause is traced to the shortage of aniline dyes from Germany. The
chances are that if the war goes on afew years more, Americans will be dressed in garments of gray and that a piece of colored fabric will be one of the real luxuries of the land.
The Miser. This character is as old as the world. Hardly a week passes that the newspapers do not chronicle the life of one of these unfortunate persons, who foolishly sacrifice the joy of life for the accumulation of gold that brings neither happiness nor pleasure. It is strange to note that misers are found not only in those classes whose mentality is low and dwarfed but also in educated circles. .An example of the latter is found in the death of a woman at Bristol, Penn., who once was a governess in the home of Grover Cleveland, and a teacher in the Bristol public schools for twenty-five 'years. When her room was entered, stock certificates, bonds and bank books showing the woman was worth almost $10,000 were found. A description of the home follows: Both of her rooms were in disorder, piled high with barrels, boxes, packages, newspapers, chairs heaped with broken dishes, decayed vegetables alid meats, bundles of rags, clippings and tin cans. In a pile of several hundred newspapers was found a small bundle. The pins were taken out and several- newspaper wrappings removed. Inside was an old stocking and inside of that, down in the toe, was found a diamond ring. Banknotes were sewed into newspapers. A napkin ring was found, with jewelry, in a bundle of rags. There were silver spoons, an English sovereign, stock certificates and coins. In dozens of the bundles nothing has been found. It is believed that Miss Rumsey made the "decoy" bundles to make it difficult to find anything of value. Miss Rumsey had been an object of pity. Many who could ill afford to assist her gave her help. One neighbor carried coal to her from the bin of her own home.

Push and Pull Push and pull are the comrades which unite to make National newspaper advertising campaigns successful. The dealer who carries the goods puts his push behind the pull of the manufacturer's newspaper advertising. Naturally, the goods move and manufacturers and retailers reap fine profits. No other advertising gets the selling combination as forcefully as does advertising in the daily newspaper. The newspaper is read by dealer and by consumer. Its message is as forceful to those who sell the goods as it is to those who buy them.

irACTS AB0DT YOUR HAIR There are about 175,000 hairs in your head. Each one is an independent oil plant and like any other plant must have constant care. If neglected, it gets sick and dies. Dandruff is the greatest enemy of the hair. It seals up the hair-cells, smothers out the roots and causes the hair to fall. The head should be kept free from dandruff. The hair-cella should be kept opea and healthy. Not by washing witl toilet soaps nor alkali shampoos that will attack the natural oil of the hair and destroy th( fatty roots. An oil Bhampoo with no free alkali should bo used. . - .- EVERY WEEK ANTI-SEPTIC OIL SHAMPOO contains no free alkali. It opens the hair-cells, loaves the scalp soft, anti-septic and free fTOE dandruff. It is the only 6hampoo containing mineral oil which i3 a real benefit to the hair plant. Its rich creamy lather thoroughly cleanses the hair and leaves it soft, lustrous and healthy. To insure a vigorous, healthy scalp, men and children should have a shampoo every week, women every otbe week. A large bottle holding 6-1 teaspoon xuls. 50 a-t
SALTS IN HOT WATER CLEARS PIMPLY SKIN Says We Must Make Kidneys Clean the Blood and Pimples Disappear.
Pimples, sores and bolls usually result from toxins, poisons and Impurities which are generated in the bowels and then absorbed Into the blood through the very ducts which should absorb only nourishment to sustain the body. It is the function of the kidneys to filter impurities from the blood and cast them out in the form of urine, but in many Instances the bowels create mre toxins and impurities than the kidneys can eliminate, then the blood uses the skin pores as the next best means of getting rid of these Impurities which often break out all over the skin in the form of pimples. The surest way to clear the skin of these eruptions, says a noted authority, is to get frm any pharmacy about four ounces of Jad Salts and take a tablespoonful in a glass of hot water each morning before breakfast for one week. This will prevent the formation of toxins In the bowels. It also stimulates the kidneys to normal activity, thus coaxing them to filter the blood of impurities and clearing the skin of pimples. Jad Salts is Inexpensive, harmless and is made from the acid of grapes and lemon juice, combined with litha. Here you have a pleasant, effervescent drink which usually makes pimples disappear; cleanses the blood and is excellent for the kidnes as well. adv.
